The Best Book in the World!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Hardcover)
When I went to Berkeley with my mom, she bought me this wonderful book at the bookstore. I started it that day and finished it the next day. I thought it was a brilliant story and my friends and mom want to read it, too. I highly recommend this story, Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs to anyone who loves to read a good, entertaining, well-written book.

Wishes, Kisses and Pigs,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Hardcover)
The story is about a family who lived on a small farm. The family consisted of Louise, Willie, the mother Clara, and the father Jack. One night Louise was milking their cow and Willie was on the way to feed the pigs. Louise was mad at him so she kind of wished her brother was a pig. The star twinkled back to her to be careful for what she wished for. He was missing for about a month, and during that month his girlfriend wanted to know where he was, and other strange things happened. Overall the story was pretty exciting and interesting.

Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs,
By jennifer Ezell (Ky) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Hardcover)
This book took an interesting look at what every child hopes will happen when seeing a star in the sky - getting a wish to come true upon wishing on the star. Louise gets more than she bargains for when she turns her own brother into a pig because he is always picking on her. I think this is a good book for children to read becasue it offers a a fantasy-filled look at a way to handle problems a lot of young people face - sibling rivalry, runaway fathers, a mother who is dating again and bringing some kind of order to events spinning out of control in one's life. This book gives children food for thought about being careful what you wish for. Overall, I think children will enjoy this playful (and sometimes not so playful) look at what happens when wishes really do come true. Sometimes it's scarier having what you want than wishing for it. Teachers could use this book when discussing fantasy. They could also have students write about real-life expereiences they have had like Louise and they could answer questions about what they would do if they turned thier sibling into a pig (what trouble they would be in!).

Pretty funny and unexpected,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Paperback)
How many books do you find about a girl that turns her brother into a pig? This is the first and only one I've ever seen. This book is funny, because it discusses how humans can be worse than pigs sometimes, and how wishes are hard to "get right." Even though this was a very original and entertaining book for me, I still had some problems with it, like how Tom and Tod, the twin brothers both trying to hook up with Louise's mom, were very outright about how they were both after Clara. The dialogue seemed a little fake. don't get me wrong, it was an exceptional book.

Be Careful What You Wish For!,
By Andrea Hopkins (Berea, KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Paperback)
This is a very creative book for children. The story is about a girl named Louise who lives on a farm with her mother and her brother, Willie. Like all siblings, Louise and Willie have their disagreements. After wishing on a star that Willie would turn into a pig, Louise finds that people need to be careful what they wish for. Willie disappears, leaving Louise thinking that her brother might have not been so bad, afterall. With Louise's father being gone, it is up to her and her mother to figure out a way to make their wishes work for them in making all well again on the farm. Others in the town become involved in this mess, as strange things continue to take place throughout the book. This story is filled with humor, magic, and of course, wishes, kisses, and pigs! I recommend this book for any reader looking for a light-hearted fairytale to make you smile.

A medium tale at best, certainly not a tall one,

This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Paperback)
"Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs" proved a trying, sometimes tiresome book to read. The affected language (why are country folk still fair game for this sort of mildly insulting diction?) distracts from the narrative, and the plodding, somewhat convoluted plot leaves too much unanswered (what does ever happen the father?) and out of reach for a satisfying ending. The premise is typical fairy tale stuff and there are some funny scenes, but even so, I kept wishing for a faster ending to this medium tale (it doesn't qualify as a tall tale.

Some Wishes Come True!!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Paperback)
Louise Tolliver, an eleven-year-old girl, lives with her mother, Clara and her hefty brother, Willie on a farm in an ordinary house in Tollivers' Hollow which is over Old Giant (a hill). Louise and Willie, like any brother and sister, always argue. But when Louise wishes her brother was a pig she and Willie won't be arguing or even talking anymore. With Louise's father, Jack Tolliver gone Louise and Clara have to tend to the animals on the farm. Jack tolliver went missing seven years ago and nobody knows where he went. Later on, Louise tries to wish Willie back, but doesn't have the best of luck. Maybe a few wishes, kisses, and stars will bring everything back to normal!!!

A Flop of a "Fairy" Tale,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wishes, Kisses, and Pigs (Hardcover)
One of the most boring, slow moving, and pointless stories on the market today, this "fairy tale" begins with a pop, fizzles into a magic spell conjured up around a star ringing eerily of witchcraft, and then plumets into a sudden tragic ending. When her brother is changed into a pig by her bumbled wish on a star, Louise sets out to right the wrong, all the while keeping him in a pig wallow and having long casual conversations with her anything-but-concerned mom. Confusing real-life "lessons" and philosophy about things of magic like wishes, kisses, songs, stars, and spells fall flat. Our kids will stick with Ella Enchanted and Fanny's Dream for that special fairy tale touch!
