WOW...i want more., November 7, 1999

This review is from: Wishes Well Disguised (Audio CD)
i have only had this cd for about a month, and i fell in love the second i listened to jess klein. 'wishes well disguised' provides quite an insight into the huge voice from that little jess. i must admit that every week i fall in love with a different song. 'strong enough' was the first because of the words themselves and then also the power behind those words from jess. "I'm only 23, a virtual baby, a gypsy once told me I've got a very old soul"....she is strong enough. Currently i am stuck on 'the wading pool' which is where the title of the cd comes from. it is just jess and her guitar...very basic, but describes in a refreshing and heart felt way her joys and fears with a love. the vocals/harmony (with jabe beyer) on 'enough room for the sun' is beautiful: simply put. 'soldier' for me hit close to home, but between again lyrics and music, it gets stuck in one's head. the majority of the songs on 'wishes well disguised' do that. and how many people can keep beat and pitch with the only instrumental help being that of one's hands (clapping)? well, that is a huge part in making 'another man done gone' a marvel. i honestly cannot stop listening to the cd...much of it has to do with jess's voice, and the little "kicks" she has the ability to throw into her songs...these "kicks" in her voice just make me want to melt. i don't think there are any bad songs on this cd (they all seem better than 'good' even i think). so if you like acoustic/chic singer/songwriter/folk with a kick or a beautiful voice with beautiful music, then i strongly advise 'wishes well disguised'...if the music doesn't get you then jess's voice will.

If you get a chance, go and watch her play!, May 22, 2000
This review is from: Wishes Well Disguised (Audio CD)
Awesome, awesome album! I picked it up after watching Jess play in a bar one night and never stopped listening. When I thought it couldn't get any better, I discovered she released another album (Flattery, songs from 93-95; check out jessklein.com). Her music is simply amazing. The music never leaves you head and the lyrics hit you in such a way that you can't help but smile. I've been lucky enough to see her perform twice and even get to speak with her. She is really one of the nicest and sweetest people you'll ever meet! Listen to Jess, you'll love her!

Good album but her newer one is better!!!, October 16, 2000
This review is from: Wishes Well Disguised (Audio CD)
Jess Klein is a storyteller. . . She has a way of taking the listener on a journey full of risky emotions and adventures, but makes them feel relaxed for the ride. I saw her perform 2 years ago and she is a delight in concert. . . honest, down to earth, with a true love for playing and performing. I got this album at the same time as Draw Them Near and while the homey aspect of this album is great. Her newer album is better! You can tell that those past years have made her wiser in the world and it just pours out of her lyrics. This is a good one album and she is going places in the folk world. Not only is her voice very charismatic, but she is a talented guitarist. Check her out. . .you won't be disappointed
