This review is from: Wishes and Worries: A Story to Help Children Understand a Parent Who Drinks Too Much Alcohol (Paperback)
This is a great picture book! It's the second in a series for kids by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. The story is highly relevant to children living with a parent or other family member who drinks too much. Maggie is a young girl who's father has a problem with alcohol and, as the story goes on, she learns the answers to common questions kids have in this type of a family situation - questions like: "why does my dad act this way?", "will my parent get better?", "will it happen to me?, and "is it my fault?" It's also a useful tool for adults who want to talk to kids about what's going on at home. I really like the illustrations too; they helped make everything easier to understand. It was refreshing to see a book that reflected a lot of diversity too. This is an excellent resource for parents, teachers and other addiction and mental health professionals.
