Independent spinster, Matilda Pennypacker leaves her beloved New York and travels to the wilds of Montana to collect her sister's orphaned son. Confirmed bachelor, Sheriff Michael Conner is happily giving up some of his sinning ways to raise his brother's orphaned son.

The very same boy Matilda is determined to take back to "cultured" New York.

This story is a heartwarming, funny and sweetly sexy tale of three lost souls learning to trust in love and creating a real family together. Maureen Child delivers another charming, not-to-be-missed Historical Western Romance in WISHES!

I loved this book. It features a spinster from NYC with no self esteem where men are concerned that has manifested itself in at least one odd way. She ends up going west to fetch her nephew whose parents have just died. There she meets the hot sheriff who falls for her. I love when the heroine isnt the traditional beauty but still gets the boy. And the boy is definately worth it. Also, the secondary characters are great. I especially liked the saloon owner who played beethoven!

The story is a fast read, the characters are warm and funny, you just can't wait to finish and see what will happen.

After finishing this one, I bought 4 other books from Ms. Child she is certainly a great author.

I bought this book this morning and just finished it. I just loved Matilda (except for her name. Mattie was much better but not used enough.)
Mike was a terrific hero and Terrence/Terry has just enough attitude for a seven year old.
I have read 4 or 5 of Ms. Child's westerns and have yet to roll my eyes at something said or done and that's really saying a lot.
So, I'm off to read one of her other books now, maybe Small Treasures, maybe Charms. I'm not sure which but whichever one it is I'd be willing to bet I'll enjoy it.

Another funny, sexy book by Maureen! Matilda is quite a unique lady and her taste in clothes fr a young boy are in serious question, but leave it to the Sheriff to tame her! I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good romance with a smile thrown in!

This story has many light moments which brought smiles and laughs throughout. Miss Matilda Pennypacker leaves New York to head out West to bring back her sister's young son after she is notified her sister has been killed in a stagecoach accident. She knows the boy is staying with an uncle and figures the trip will be completed to her satisfaction quickly. She gets a big surprise when she meets Sheriff Mike Connors, who is also the uncle, and he refuses to just let her take the boy and go back east. She finds herself running through many emotions which are all new to her which flusters her completely. Most of these emotions surface whenever she spends time with the sheriff, a man the likes she has never met. While she spends time trying to convince herself why she is having such thoughts, the sheriff finds himself having a difficult time getting her out of his head. They argue about whether their nephew will be leaving with her and they try to agree which is most important for the boy. In the meantime; their feelings for one another develop which causes each to try to resist the other. Life isn't the same for either one as they become more involved and come to realize how deeply their feelings run. I would probably read this book more than once just for the enjoyment of going through the mishaps and emotions they have for one another.

I am getting ready to begin chapter six and I couldn't wait to write a review. It doesn't matter what happens in the rest of the book, although I can't wait to get back to it and finish. This book is perfect. Chapter five alone is worth the cost of the book. Really, no matter what you paid, this book is worth more. I've been a Maureen Child fan for a very long time and always have such a good time reading her books and I am trying to finish my Child collection. I just finished the Reilly series and I loved it, as usual, and I usually read a different or new author in between my favorites but I just went to another Child book this time. So glad I did. I've had a few very hard days and I needed this bit of fun.
I wouldn't dream of interfering, ;) (you will get it later!) but I suggest that you get this book, and other Child books too. Now, I am going to finish my book.
