Book Description

0709037619 978-0709037613 September 1995
Lois Bourne realized her psychic abilities during her early childhood in the form of ghostly sightings. For many years, she has been a practising witch and occultist. The extraordinary deeds her gifts have enabled her to perform are here recorded in fascinating detail. In her attempts to explain the secrets behind these powers, she offers the reader new insight into the realms of witchcraft and presents evidence that lends credence to the 'Craft of the Wise' - and indeed, to the 'supernatural' as a whole.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This is an entertaining and informative book on a serious subject.

A very readable autobiography of a modern witch which contains many fascinating anecdotes from a life-story many will find riveting and also includes insights into the philosophy of this age-old craft.

About the Author

Lois Bourne, married with two grown-up sons, lives in Hertfordshire, a county which has many historical associations with witchcraft. She enjoys cultivating her garden which is graced by a stature of the God Pan. When not engaged in lecturing and psychic work, her hobbies are sleeping, collecting antiques, and listening to classical music. She is a nature and animal lover and enjoys walking and meditating in the countryside. An avid reader of non-fiction, seeking always to increase her knowledge, she also enjoys house-keeping but admits to being an indifferent cook and almost vegetarian in eating habits. Fast driving of sports cars is her only obsession and having achieved her main ambition, to become a grandmother, she now merely wishes to grow old gracefully.

5.0 out of 5 stars With our thoughts, we make our world., March 12, 2001

This review is from: Witch Amongst Us: The Autobiography of a Witch (Paperback)
I was about 16 years old when I first read this book, (I am now 31) and I will never forget the feeling that I had finally 'come home'. For the first time I felt like I belonged to something that I instinctively understood and it made blissful sense of all the confused feelings I'd had growing up (and indeed I still am growing up) with conventional, organised religion and feeling very much like a square peg. I loved her humour, her earthyness, her simple, witty style and her fearlessness. When I was 16 the New Age movement hadn't taken hold, there were hardly any books available to teenagers on Witchcraft or any related subjects. So it was a great joy to me to find this hidden in the shelves of my local library and put my feet firmly on this path that accepted and understood me. I would recommend this book highly to anyone starting out and I intend to read it again, to remind myself of where I started and how far I've come since then.

Glad it's been reprinted. She's a star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read for all, not just witches, July 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Witch Amongst Us: The Autobiography of a Witch (Paperback)
I found this book quite by accidents (but there are no accidents are there?). I couldn't put it down and have since read it countless times. It's too bad this book is not more widely distributed/advertised. I think it is a classic, and would have interested the same people who flocked to see the film "THE SIXTH SENSE." If you have read other books by authors like Sybil Leek, Szusanna Budapest, Marion Weinstein, Starhawk and other prominent writers on the subject of witchcraft, you will find that this book is completely different. This book is quite literally a biography of Lois Bourne, who just happens to be a witch. Lois has a terrific sense of humor and is very lowkey about some of the fantastic things that have happened to her. Reading this book made me want to hear more, to sit down and have a cup of tea with her. Aside from the wonderful stories she tells, Lois provides an accurate account of what it means to be a witch. If you are new to the craft, this story will give you a definite sense of the lifestyle you are about to enter into. Witch circumstances and philosophies like "being on call", deciding whether to help people who seek you out, of having to deal with situations you'd sooner avoid (like negative forces/energy) are exemplified in this book. Lois is quite modest about the very incredible things she has done. But of course, you are not discouraged from becoming a witch if you are not as gifted as Lois. I would recommend this biography to anyone, as you probably have never meant anyone like Lois before. This story is not definitely not just for witches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent insight, Guideline for non-witches, October 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Witch Amongst Us: The Autobiography of a Witch (Paperback)
I was struck by the utter sincerity of the tale. Allthough not endowed with the special talents of Ms Bourne, I think there is a lot to learn from her, for a non-witch. The good we can do for each other in simple ways are manifold and she reminds us of these. I found the book a true guide to helping others and with that a guide to a better life for myself. I am lending this book to a friend, who has had many strange experiences in her life and I hope this can give her the comfort to deal with them as a positive part of her life and not as scary and something that has to be avoided. I am very glad Ms Bourne has decided to publish this book and extend her positive, white magic to others who cannot meet her in person. As a simple voodoo doll pushed through the mail-slot can cause havoc, so can a simple good deed undo it. So really we can all do a little magic. Thankyou for listening to my opinion and thankyou again for writing this book.
