The second book in the Wishcraft Mystery series finds Darcy juggling plans for her aunt's upcoming wedding while accepting a job to clean out a hoarder house. Then during the initial inspection of the house with the owner's daughter, they discover a dead body buried in the clutter. The mystery surrounding this death, as well as that of the town's peeping tom, keeps Darcy on her toes as she tries to find answers, all without getting in trouble with her wishcraft magic. The first book in this series did a good job of identifying the different regular town characters and their individual craft magic. This 2nd book rounds out some of these characters making them more real to the reader. I am looking forward to the continuing saga of Darcy and her wish magic.

This book was fun to read and had a couple of mysteries inside, including a good murder mystery. I did not recognize the killer until the reveal and that doesn't happen too often any longer. Meanwhile, we the readers are kept busy with a 'Creeper Peeper' that honestly had me flummoxed, a wedding that just doesn't seem to be on 'track,' a romance that you root for and more.

Ms. Blake knows how to deliver a cozy location, the Enchanted Village neighborhood of Salem, Ma. Cozy? Oh yes, I can just see myself wandering down the streets and being tempted by the 'Charmory', a meal perhaps at the 'Sorceror's Stove' (although lately there have been rumors,)or a group vacation photo at the 'Hocus Pocus Photography' store.

The streets are policed in pastel cars. The persons living there are friendly and kind.

Oh, I did remember to mention the body, didn't I? Inside a hoarder's home?

You will have to get yourself a copy or ebook of this novel and find out the excitement for yourself.

Now to await the next in the series, which we were given a preview of and I am so ready to read the entire book but will wait. Not too patiently.

Darcy Merriweather was a Wishcrafter, but perhaps the last thing she may have put on her wish list was the necessity of having to move in with her aunt after her divorce. Aunt Ve owned "As You Wish," a concierge service that lived up to it's name, something that Darcy would soon discover. Aunt Ve was indisposed with the flu and when Elodie Keaton approached her with an unusual request, it truly was a your-wish-is-my-command situation. Elodie's mother, Patrice Keaton, vanished from the face of the earth more than a year ago and her house needed a bit of a makeover. Well, maybe a lot because Patrice was a hoarder, an extreme one.

Marcus Debrowski spooked Darcy when he claimed that the Anicula amulet was responsible for Patrice's death. Magic did live in the Enchanted Village, but such a potent amulet shouldn't have been in anyone's possession, let alone Patrice's. The Anicula was the only way a Wishcrafter could "grant their own wishes," but had she really abused its powers? It was a moot question because she was missing and Darcy had to clean out that mess. She'd rather be making eyes at hunky police officer, Nick Sawyer, but garbage would have to do. Darcy discovered that the Hoarders show and its disgusting bugs had nothing on the Keaton house when she found the mummified remains of none other than Patrice Keaton ... in a suitcase.

"Ghouls the lot of them," thought Darcy. Even her sister, Harper, was waiting for the details. She knew that Andreus `Mr. Macabre' Woodshall, Patrice's boyfriend, might kill for the Anicula, but he wasn't the only one. Not surprisingly Elodie asked Darcy to "snoop around" and ferret out her mother's killer. A seeker would definitely want the Anicula, but so would a Crafter. The whodunit list was going to be a long one.

Living in an enchanted village may sound a bit strange, but for Darcy Merriweather it's beginning to feel normal - or as normal as can be for a wish crafter.

Darcy and her sister, Harper, live with their Aunt Velma in the magic-themed town of Enchanted Village. This is a place were witches live and practice their craft without mortals realizing it. Darcy helps out with her aunt's business, As You Wish, a personal concierge service.

Elodie Keaton's mother has been missing for over a year. When Elodie hires As You Wish to clean out her mother's cluttered house, Darcy doesn't realize what she's getting herself into. The house is a mess with piles of newspapers, boxes, and other clutter. But before the cleaning begins, Darcy uncovers Patrice Keaton's decaying body in a suitcase among the clutter.

It seems Patrice owned the Anicula, a wish-granting amulet that may have lead to her death. Between the house cleaning and searching for the truth to Patrice's death, Darcy places herself in danger when the killer believes she's found the magical amulet.

While this is a story of murder and mayhem, it's also sprinkled with humor, romance, and family loyalty. A WITCH BEFORE DYING flows smoothly and is an easy read enticing readers with twists and turns from beginning to end.

Author Heather Blake has created a strong protagonist in Darcy giving her independence and yet still a bit vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. The other characters are zany and realistic despite their magical abilities. The detailed descriptions of the village places the reader there with the characters. Readers can practically feel the magical energy around them as they read.
