5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS WRITER COZY MYSTERY
Great entertaining read. I stayed up late to finish it, can't wait for next installment. This looks like to be the first of a series. Try her other series as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can't give it more than 1 star
I was enjoying the book for probably the first third of its (measly) 150 pages.
Then, it got rather silly. The heroine acted like a nitwit (not once, but continuously). I could still deal with all of that.
But, then the book stopped dead. I mean...it just stopped. Everything pretty much up in the air. I realize there is probably another installment...

I absolutely love the quirkiness of this series and can't wait for the next installment! Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist appears. The characters are funny and very entertaining. Another great book and series by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Fun, July 12, 2011

I've always enjoyed Livia Washburn's books. This time she's starting a new series about a young witch who stutters and can't cast spells. As it turns out, however, the stuttering problem isn't what she always thought it was. In fact, she learns that a lot of things weren't what she thought they were, and her world is upended in surprising ways. And imagine the shock of her roommates when they discover she's a witch. This is a fast, entertaining book, and there's bound to be a sequel along soon. I'm looking forward to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wonder if she's a witch?, January 18, 2012
This review is from: Witch Got Your Tongue (Kindle Edition)
Livia Reasoner may be a witch. That's the only reason I can think of for her ability to write such a totally believable witch story. And it's fun.

Some playful fantasies tend to be maudlin or juvenile. Not this witch story. It could be a novel about ordinary run-of-the-mills Corpus Christians, except for the magic. Well, I don't know, maybe that's reality in Texas. I'm almost convinced to travel to the Lone Star State to find out.

Witch Got Your Tongue? is a fun read, and the mystery is totally believable. Livia transports you into her Texas world, body and soul. Highly recommended. What's more, it's part of a series, so you can look forward to the next short novel (35,000 words or so) in the series. You'll love it. As will I.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read!!, December 30, 2011
This review is from: Witch Got Your Tongue (Kindle Edition)
I read the book in one sitting and could not put it down! I have been anticipating this book for a long time and was thrilled when it was published and I got to read it. My mother who is not a fan of "witch" anything REALLY enjoyed reading this book. She said she would with out a doubt pick up the second book when it comes out. I think Livia has a beautiful way to capture the characters in the story and it really deserves more amazing reviews! It is by far one of the best books I read this year!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Tongue Tied Witch tale, December 3, 2011

Livia J. Washburn is an author I love to read. Her mystery series featuring Lucas Hallam was published in the 1980's and they feature a cowboy turned stunt man working in the western films of the 1920's who gets involved in murder and the like. The novels are very good.

WITCH GOT YOUR TONGUE is the first in a new urban fantasy series by Livia entitled THE TONGUE TIED WITCH. The witch of the title is young Aren McAllister, the daughter of some powerful witches and sister of a flourishing young warlock. She, however, is a disappointment. She cannot do magic because she stammers. Badly. And if you cannot say the words, the magic does not work. Her father is a successful businessman but she refuses to work for him. Instead she does temp work and gets by with the help of her two roommates, Taylor and Beth, who are a lawyer and intern, respectively. The girls have all been friends since freshman year of college. They are all working in the lovely seaside town of Corpus Christi.

Aren has a job for Halloween as a sexy witch delivering singing telegrams. Her final delivery of the day, a scathing telegram to a guy who had a one night stand and never called the girl back, ends with her working a magic spell. It seems that she can sing without stammering and with a little twist, the magic is there.

At the same time she has found something approaching true love with Donovan Cole, a financial analyst who saves Aren when a couple stage a wreck and attack Aren.

Everything suddenly seems great until she finds out that as an infant she did work magic and quite powerful magic at that, once nearly destroying the world we inhabit. A curse was placed on her to prevent her from doing magic and the stammer was the primary deterrent. Suddenly she is able to bypass the curse and various powerful witches are not happy.

More stuff happens and the book takes several interesting turns before it ends on a cliff hanger. I will be looking for book two when it arrives.

It is available fairly inexpensively. The trade paperback format at the mass market price. And it is on Kindle if your reading takes you in that general direction.

This is not my normal type of read. But knowing Livia's work, I took a chance and it was very enjoyable. Aren is a fun character and I liked the other characters all the way through. And it was a fast read. The book runs just over 150 pages. All in all, it is fun and worth your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic (in both senses), February 3, 2012

This short novel is fast-moving and entertaining. Despite the fantasy elements (shades of Samantha and Endora), the heroine is very believable. Plenty of twists and turns along the way... and a mystery at the heart of it all. Regarding a previous reviewer's comments: 35,000 words, or 150 pages, is not "measly." It is a short read, and the first installment of a series (or at least, one must assume, a trilogy), and there's nothing wrong with that.

But, then the book stopped dead. I mean...it just stopped. Everything pretty much up in the air. I realize there is probably another installment but...honestly? I can't see spending money on another that might end just like this one, should a third book be in the cards.

I like Ms. Washburn's book tour mysteries very, very much. They have a strong, well-defined female character and enjoyable plots.

This one...was a HUGE disappointment.

This book doesn't end--it just stops. It is clearly part 1 of several.

I can't believe that the other reviewers just ignored this.

BTW: it was a pretty good read until it stope.
