Stunning continuation of a fascinating saga!,
By Jennifer Ray (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Witch Heart (Elemental Witches, Book 3) (Paperback)
Although born in the Earth realm, Claire has lived most of her life in the demon realm of Eudae where she serves as handmaiden to a powerful Ytrayi daaeman. When her master's home is attacked by the deadly Atrika demons, she is thrust through the portal to Earth bearing the Ytrayi's most dangerous weapon, the Elium. The Atrika will do anything to possess the weapon, and follow her to Earth to retrieve it by any means necessary.
Claire must rely on the assistance of the human witches in the Earth realm to protect her from the demons hunting her. But she soon finds she wants much more from sexy Adam tyrell than his protection - she craves his touch, his kiss, and more. For his part, Adam Tyrell is captivated by the little witch. He hasn't felt this way for a woman in years. His past love ended in tragedy, and Adam will do anything to keep the same from happening to Claire, no matter the sacrifice to himself. I love Anya Bast's books, but my favorite of all her stories is definitely those in her ELEMENTAL WITCHES series! Book three of this saga, WITCH HEART, kicks the story up a notch as we learn even more about the origins of Earth's witches and warlocks and their connections to the demon realm Eudae. Claire's appearance in the world of her birth has a lot to do with that. She may be human, but she has spent the majority of her life surrounded by daaemans (demons) in their world, serving their needs and whims as a slave, albeit a well-treated one. Having aided in Thomas's escape from that world in WITCH BLOOD, it is only natural that his coven help her now when she is in mortal danger in their realm. Much to readers' delight, Thomas assigns the sexy playboy Adam Tyrell to take point as Claire's bodyguard. A powerful Fire Witch, he will be useful in the fight against the Atrika demons in pursuit. But that very power also reacts to Claire's own magic in a way that proves irresistible to them both... Of course, beyond the magical attraction, there is real love in his heart for Claire, although he is slow to admit it - mostly because of his own past. Ah, but how the mighty do fall, and watching Adam Tyrell succumb to Claire's womanly charms is an absolutely delicious ride! As for Claire, this woman has lived her life as a slave until now, and now suddenly has an unlimited degree of autonomy - at least as much as the danger she is currently in allows. She can do what she wants, eat what she likes, and be with whomever she desires. This new freedom is a heady thing to her, although not nearly as intoxicating as the feelings that Adam inspires in her. She is a beautiful blend of naïve innocent, powerful witch, and desirable woman. Intent on always doing what is right, her nobility drives Adam crazy from the danger it keeps her in even while he admires her for it. WITCH HEART is a grand escape into a paranormal world brimming with sensual delight and everlasting love, even while fraught with unspeakable dangers. With a well-written story and an intriguing plot, readers can practically feel every emotion along with the characters, immersing them into the world completely Bravo to Anya Bast for another great story in this fascinating saga! **Courtesy of Wild on Books** Series Order: Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, Book 1) Witch Blood (Elemental Witches, Book 2) Witch Heart (Elemental Witches, Book 3) Witch Fury (Elemental Witches, Book 4)

At the Heart of a Witch,,

Fans of the supernatural or the action/occult will enjoy this book. There is plenty of sex and violence so it is not for the young nor the conscientious objector. The story moves along at a pretty good pace and is perfectly understandable even if you have not read the previous two in the series. Even the dialogue (which sometimes bogs down a Meyer or a Rowling and even King and, dare I say it - Tolkien) moves the story along with hardly a bump. No small feat considering the super-human abilities of the main characters.
Unlike one of the previous reviewers I found no real fault with the Alpha Male Character. He is, after all, a born killer hiding his powers from the 'normal' human beings surrounding him his whole life. Now that the enemy is upon them he gets to find out what he is really made of. A bit more trumpeting and posturing from him would have been fine with me. The heroine of the story is believable and quite likeable. I thought she was, frankly, a little easy, but maybe I'm just getting old. She certainly complements her male lead. But, in keeping with current trends she knows how to kick some monster butt when necessary. It's the classic love story in the middle of running from certain death saga. The bad guys are The Consummate Bad Guys. They're actually demons in the flesh. Alien flesh, to be sure, but killable nevertheless. Like they would care about that. And her former master, Rue, well he could be even worse.

I finished this in just a few hours. I loved this story and can't wait for the next one in the series. Each one stands alone, but they are best read in order to get all the details straight about these witches.

Anya Bast creates one of my favorite characters in Which Heart. I love it when the females in a story are stronger than the males. Yet, even though Claire is more powerful than other witches she is venerable in a way no other witch is.
Claire has lived most of her life in a demon realm where her somewhat-caring master performs experiments on her magic, altering it in such a way that she is able to draw on all four elements at once. But the power threatens to consume her if she uses too much. When her master is attacked by rebel demons seeking the Elium (a powerful demon weapon) Claire's master embeds it within her magic core, and thrusts her through a portal into the earth realm. She is instantly lost, and only knows that she must find her own kind, witches. But she knows nothing of Earth and no one on Earth seems to know anything about witches or demons. There is a period of bumbling around and looking like a crazy bag lady, which was humorous. Adam has been ordered by the witch council to keep Claire safe from the demons who followed her to Earth. Adam is somewhat of a playboy, and is not looking for a relationship, but something about Claire captivates him and he can't seem to stay away from her. Through the book we watch Claire and Adam's relationship blossom, while Claire learns to control her powers that have been enhanced by the Elium inside her. I consider this the best book of the series and if you like stories with magic, action, and sex then try this one out.

This series just got better on this book 3. As it goes indepth into the daeman dimension, the characters also are developed nicely. Claire's sudden switch of dimensions puts her in a difficult position of a balancing act between her innocence and strength. I love the writing style where I, the reader am privy to perspective of all the characters before it is even brought into the open. If you are bothered by some sprinklings of pornlit then maybe you can spare yourself with this otherwise good PNR. Adam definitely deserves his HEA with Claire. Happy reading.

This book mostly follows Claire, a human witch, who was sent to live in the demon world of Eudae by her mother when she was just a child. There she spent her life as a demon handmaiden, until the rouge demons of her land attack her owners in hope of getting a hold of a very powerful weapon. Claire's demon owner then places this magick within her and sends her to earth hoping to keep this magic out of the hands of evil. Once on earth she finds that no one knows about witches and that she is completely alone. Meanwhile the Coven gets wind of a powerful witch in need of help and sends Adam out to get her. He is instantly drawn to Claire but living the life she has she knows little of love and fears what her owner will do to Adam if she gets involved with him. Claire must learn to use the magick within her without killing herself while Adam struggles to keep her safe from not only the evil that seeks to kill her but from her own fears.
This is the 3rd book in the Elemental Witch series by Anya Bast. Anya again brings us a powerful story with the members if the Coven seeking, first to save Clair from her life in the demon world of Eudae, then to save her from some rouge demons hell bent on taking the very powerful magick within her. Love and magick make up this wonderful tale that will leave you wanting more.

I strongly recommend the previous books in this series be read (Witch Fire and Witch Blood) before reading this book. I enjoyed this story, it was fast paced and action-packed. Claire the earth witch slave we met in the previous book Witch Blood, fines herself in a pickle when in turn she herself, has been involuntarily pushed through the doorway from Eudea (the demon realm) to the human realm. Having very little knowledge for the human culture, Claire cleverly tries to survive and out-wit the two demon-hunters who have been tracking her to kill her. Adam, a fire witch from Thomas Monahan's coven, volunteers to help Claire hide from the demon-hunters. Things progressed quickly between Adam and Claire but the chemistry between them felt coincidental and predictable. There was plenty of magic, mystery and intrigue. However I didn't enjoy this book was much as the first two in the series. Don't get me wrong, I was interested pretty much through the entire book; but there was a certain pizzazz lacking from the story. I categorize this book as a paranormal romance fantasy and therefore recommend this book and series to only those fellow dark urban fantasy readers, who have an abundance of patience and tolerance, to circumnavigate through the many sex scenes in order to remain with the plot, as well as weed through the overly predictable sections. I look forward to reading the next book in the series Witch Fury.
I also recommend: Vicious Circle Seduced by Magic (Magic Series, Book 2) Insatiable Desire (The Demonborn) Grave Sins (A Cin Craven Novel) Demon's Kiss (Compact of Sorcerors, Book 1)

Claire briefly remembers her time on Earth, having been taken by her mother to the demon world, Eudae, as a young child. On Eudae, Claire learns she's an elemental witch but cannot escape because demon forces keep her there under their domination. As a member of an influential demon's household, Rue bends Claire's will, genetically altering her powers, adding a demon component known as the `elium' to them. Having her psyche genetically altered triggers something within Claire, making her want to escape. Never thinking it was possible to return to her homeland, Claire enables a fellow witch return to Earth. Helping him escape, she decides to use a portal to return home. Will Claire be able to find the Coven and rid herself of the `elium'?
I wondered after reading the second story in Anya Bast's Elemental Witch series what would happen to Claire after she helped Thomas escape Eudae. Witch Heart takes up where Witch Blood ended. Claire was instrumental in reuniting Thomas with his love, Isabelle. Thomas, the leader of the Coven, never forgot her sacrifice, making his witches work tirelessly trying to bring her back to Earth. Unfortunately for Claire, a sinister witch network finds Claire first and she finds herself quickly under their control. Claire shows her mettle when she telepathically sends signals which alert Thomas to her location. Thomas dispatches Adam Tyrell to rescue Claire and return her to the Coven's compound to help her acclimate to Earthly life. Ms. Bast pairs a very unlikely couple in Witch Heart. I never would have guessed playboy witch Adam would have such powerful chemistry with Claire, but by the story's end I could see why these two were made for each other. Both are suffering from past hurts and together they work through their issues while simultaneously trying to save Claire from demon enslavement. I love Anya Bast's Elemental Witch series because she seamlessly continues the previous couples' stories, constantly weaving new characters to look forward to. |
