Academic elitist take,
By Holly Golightly (Western Hemisphere) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Witch-Hunt; or, The Triumph of Morality (Paperback)
This Witch-Hunt is an interesting read if you want to learn about some of the cultural practices of the Bisipara. However, the point of view the author has over the life of the Bisipara is a bit elitist and disappointing. Even fifty years after the fact, it is clear Bailey was not able to let go of some of his Western ideals while visiting with the Bisipara. I definitely think Bailey could have benefited from revisiting the village before publishing his take on Bisipara life. Fifty years is a long time to harbor memories of a foreign culture. In my own humble opinion, $20 is a lot of money to spend on this book.
