5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations January 6, 2012

Funny, entertaining, and packed with excitement. This untrained witch is perfect in my book, I needed a good laugh and that's what I got. Topped off with a bit of "slap, slap, kiss" romance it's a good read beginning to end.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked it. February 25, 2013

I thought the book was fun. Jane is a late bloomer, magically speaking and in learning to use her powers she makes a few mistakes, like turning the mayor into a pig. I liked her. There were a few editing errors that were distracting for me, not just extra words and typos here and there but at one point she thinks about her mother driving to visit her only daughter, yet Jane has spoken with a younger sister, Kayla. Jake orders orange juice at a cafe but we find him putting sugar in his coffee. Then she says she picked her car up that evening and a couple pages later she had it delivered that afternoon. But overall, I thought it was a fun read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so much, I'm sorry to say January 29, 2012

Supernatural books have always been an interest of mine, and recently I was turned on to books such as "The Witch Next Door." You know, a bit of the supernatural mixed with humor and possibly a love interest. Considering that, plus it was one of the first books I downloaded on my spiffy new Kindle Fire, I really wanted to like this book. It pains me to criticize something that someone spent a great deal of time creating, but this book just wasn't interesting. Now, I only got into the second chapter before giving up, so perhaps it gets better in later chapters. But the situations and conversations just weren't believable.

Yeah, yeah, one probably shouldn't expect a book in this genre to be "realistic," but one also cannot feel a connection with characters when one keeps mentally saying, "Really??" Okay, so you have a crush on the boss but he's a jerk. Got it. This is mentioned several times in the first chapter without a nod to why this boss *is* a jerk. Perhaps the reader is supposed to understand that the main character thinks he's a jerk in the same way that little boys pull the hair of little girls they like. But when this boss repeatedly does nice things for her and she complains that he's a jerk - again, I would think it would be up to the author to explain exactly why she thinks he's a jerk, or at least make him do or say something a jerk would do/say after he's been Prince Charming (one brief line of dialog is not enough). Then there is an unbelievable conversation between the main character and her mother. Of course it's unbelievable, you might say, it's in a supernatural romance book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to like it.... January 25, 2012

...but couldn't even finish it. It was free, so that was a plus. But the writing was pretty bad. Sorry. I really DID try to like it and to overlook the weird layout (the indentions were off from paragraph to paragraph on my Kindle... some were right on point, others were too far right). The story itself didn't develop for me. I kept waiting for it to happen, but it just didn't. Again... happy it was free, but wasn't thrilled with the story. I hope with time, Ms. Tuttle will get better because her idea for this book was quite interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unexpected pleasure. January 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and charming. The heroine was so normal! No "daddy issues" or feeling too ugly for love, or being too stupid to live. Finding her way to her powers had me laughing and wincing at the same time. The "hero" was a bit of an alpha, but not annoyingly so. It's a fun little read and the romance does not take a cast iron skillet and smack you on the head.
