My intense problem with this book is that I've bought two copies of it so far, and every time the godsforsaken binding has come apart. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I'm not buying a third bloody copy of this book just so it can break down after ONE READ!

Once again, love the contents, but whoever constructed the book itself is vastly retarded.

I've been waiting for years to collect Witchblade titles and was very excited to read these.

A few things bothered me though: first off, the binding is just ridiculous. I think my 2 year old nephew could glue a macaroni man on paper better than Top Cow's binder. This may not seem like a big deal but it really made the images more difficult to enjoy when I would try to open the page to it's full capacity only to hear ripping sounds. I spent hard earned money and I expect good quality out of something that simple.

Another thing that bothered me was the amount of spelling errors and sometimes even missing words or words were rubbed out. This got very annoying and made parts difficult to grasp if I wasn't paying full attention. I don't want to hear that critically acclaimed writers had their hands in this story and then see that "pull" is spelled "plul" or something silly like that. I think it is worth it to spell check or pay a little more attention than that.

No faults of Ms. Pezzini though. I loved the images and the story and I am very excited about finishing out my collection.

Compiling the first eight numbers of this iconic comic book series, you will find the origins of the contemporary wielder of the weapon Witchblade - Sara Pezzini.

This long lived series started in 1995 and Topcow had a distinct type of art that characterized the company. The wasp like figures and heavily breasted ladies (almost every female character looks like that), the big pretty guys...they look very much alike although the final product is quite good (especially for 95 patterns). Obviously purists of proportion should stay at arm's length of this book.

The script is very good with two of the most interesting characters of a comic book series...curiously neither is the main character; I'm talking about mighty Ian Nottingham and the ambitious Kenneth Irons (although I think that an ninety year old entrepreneur using an earring is somewhat weird (never a 1900's tycoon would use earrings...).
The only thing that I think is overdone are the excessive references about the famous and beautiful (including actors, models, singers); almost a hall of fame.

I had heard of Witchblade, and it had been dancing at the peripherals of my awareness for years, so when I saw this collection I decided to buy it and see what I thought. Overall, it was okay, but nothing special; which is not to say that I don't have hope. The concept is intriguing and the art is AMAZING (in an unrealistic, 90's comic art sense--- huge muscles, impossible cup-sizes, and best of all, vibrant colors), but the writing, and especially the page layout-- which I find very important in my comic books-- is average to sub-par. As this volume only collects the first eight issues, I'm not too dissappointed, though. I have the second volume as well, and hopefully the promising features of the first story arc will overtake the unfortunately lack-luster elements present here. Overall, visually stunning and decent story... nothing too special, but enough to keep reading and see where it goes from here. (Ideally, I'd rather have given it a 3.5)
