Am so pleased with this book. It's a refreshing read, full of history and fantasy, too. A real surprise among the other witch books out there. This one's unique!

Not only for that spooky time of year, which is almost upon us, WITCHES presents a colorful mythological, historical, folkloric, and fantasy-based picture of worldwide lore, fact and fantasy accompanied by lots of wonderful paintings and illustrations. Concise, well written; it's a pleasure to have in my varied book collection and impressive enough to give to my favorite friends as gifts.

Everyone in my dorm keeps walking off with this one! Wouldn't YOU like to know why?!! Then READ IT!

The diversity of this book--brightly and knowledgeably written--is magic within itself.

I very much liked this book, which gave a most enjoyable and broad overview of the subject. It's both entertaining and informational as well as beautiful to look at.

If you're like me, your idea of a real witch includes the typical black-frocked hag. WRONG! Goddesses, healers, magicians, wizards, oracles, ancient Celts--they're all here. And so, too, is the real story of just what and who evolved into the witches of our world history. Covering ancient history--and prehistory--medieval times and more, the author gives a sound and accurate picture in often lyrical form of the actual evolution of magical people.

A totally different take on the majority of information available today. Refreshing in that Eisenkraft-Palazzola does not fancy herself a witch, and takes a totally impartial and optimistic, enthusiastic and happy look at a subject ordinarily dry and repetitious. No blackened cauldrons here; sunny, well-written account of the true story of goddesses, witches, and magic of the past. If you're a Wiccan, don't stop here; this volume is a delight, but offers no guidance or eerie suggestions for those who may fancy themselves modern-day witches. Instead, buy it for the delicious writings and elegant, lovely art!

The author provides a most informative and entertaining visit to the realm of witches. The illustrations are magnificent and the writing is unusual in that it covers the subject in a comprehensive manner and is also fun to read.

What a pleasure to see the realm of witches and witchcraft as well as wizards and magic from a true historical viewpoint, rather than another book on Wicca. Enthralling and entertaining, upbeat and fun. I had no idea my view of witches was based solely on childhood memories of black-hatted, warty and pocked, evil old ladies. I was surprised to find that witches and such were quite different than I would have ever imagined. Golden- and raven-haired beauties, wives and lovers... Who knew?

I have read this volume several times and intend to read it many more. Each time I pick it up, I find something new to explore.
