Book Description

*** A twisted tale of earth, air, fire, and water ***

Living in Maine with her grandmother and eccentric aunts is not how sixteen-year-old Ivy Seaforth expected to spend her summer—but working for a peculiar wealthy man and running errands for a powerful witch who lives in a tree-house wasn't in her plans, either. And her sister, Zinnia...something was different. Zinnia was making mysterious visits to the forest, and that was certainly forbidden. Ivy longed for the days when she and her sister were best friends. Those days now seemed so long ago.
Ivy soon discovers that, along with the witch, the forest is inhabited by a wondrous race of otherworldly and unearthly beautiful beings - the Fae, and a young man of an even fairer race. When her father disappears, Ivy, must help the old witch break an evil curse that is preventing her from finding him. As she discovers her own mysterious past for the first time, she must learn to accept that things are not always as they seem and that magic might just be real.
With this new knowledge and the help of her new friends, will she be able to find her father? Will she be able to save her sister? Or is Zinnia already beyond being saved?

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book September 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had downloaded this book as a quick read, but I found it far more interesting than I had expected. Although it started fairly slow, three chapters in, it picked up a great deal. The author created a world with very detailed description and adventure. The sentence structure flowed and the word usage was creative. The book put itself together in such a way, making me unable to put the book down. I would certainly recommend to anyone who is interested in the fantasy genre. I will certainly read the next book and I hope others feel the same way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful start to this series August 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first book in a series and I think it is a magnificent beginning! The characters are well developed and I love the setting being in Maine. There's just something about witches and maine that makes a great combo. I hope the author writes more. I will definitely keep reading. It has a great story telling pace and is a super fun read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun read for teens June 26, 2014
By Tricia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Witches of Merribay is a story about Ivy and Zinnia, two sisters who get caught up in the world of witches, sorceresses, Fae, elves, and elementals. There are several mysteries at the heart of this story, and a few plot twists as well.

In some ways, there was too much going on in this book. Too many characters introduced. Too many mythical creatures. Too many subplots. Not to say there's anything wrong with that. Some people like a fast-paced, busy plot, so other readers might love this aspect of the book. For me, it was often too much and felt as if the author was trying to pack in as much as she could. This book was really hard to rate. In places, the writing felt like 2-star or even 1-star work. Editing could have been much, much better. By editing, I don't mean proofreading--there weren't a ton of errors. Just places where Ivy's voice could have been more consistent, or where the the writing could have been a little less confusing.

So why did I give it a three? Because I liked the book. I did get caught up in the story, and by the last quarter of the book, I didn't want to stop reading it. The author has amazing potential and a boundless imagination. Overall, it was a fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing.. a new twist!! November 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Fantasy at its best!!! A novel approach that kept me intrigued and captivated the entire time. Don't want to spoil it., so will only say that this is creative in its own world IMO as Harry potter books are for theirs.

Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Is this really a new author??? Or did I misunderstand?

More About the Author

B.J.Smash aka Brenda J. Smith, grew up in a small town in Maine, literally in the middle of nowhere, where she may or may not have been taken to fairyland. She also may or may not have seen an elf or two roaming in the woods. Her books are inspired by dreams that she had in her younger days. Brenda lived in Thailand for five years, was trained to be a certified mahout, loves elephants, and now resides in Maryland with her husband, daughter, son, and two Cavalier King Charles spaniels. She loves to visit Scotland and hopes to someday visit Ireland. She will continue to write about the Fae as she understands them to be. Thank you for taking the time to read her books.
