4.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating read May 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a long story - much too long with unnecessary stuff crammed into the storyline. It was also confusing at times too because you didn't know how the heroine ended up in Sanctuary in the land of Ru-Noc. All of a sudden she also owned a magical shop and inanimate things would start talking to her from time to tim. The story is long and full of frustration, aggravation, betrayals, some erotic scenes, etc. It contains:
Prince Talon - who becomes smitten with Saylym even though he doesn't want to be - that's because Saylym's an "impure": half human. And most pure witches can't stomach them. He's been tasked to either take her soul or handfast with her after he makes his decision about her intentions in his land. What ensues is a frustating journey between these two - especially Saylym's journey in finding out who she really is. And believe me - you won't find out until you muddle through towards the end.

The evil characters (Melora & Black Drayke) don't get the comeuppance that they deserve in the end meaning they will go on terrorizing the land of Ru-Noc in future stories....arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I just didn't understand how when they had the chance to kill them, they didn't! That annoys me to no end! And Saylym's constant denial of her witch heritage annoyed me so much. Prince Talon's kingdom seemed ineffective against black magic and there was so much conniving, deceit, betrayals and misunderstandings all around. At some point in the reading I skipped over a lot of useless parts and parts I couldn't stomach (like the hexing of King Drake and the torture of Queen Helayne). While this was happening I couldn't understand where Prince Stry wasn't around and why Talon didn't know something was wrong until it was too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Magical Wands and a Sprinkling of Wishing Dust September 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was excited to see another witch book by Tabitha Shay. This author is absolute magic. Often if I think a book is going to be long I avoid it. My limit is around 350 pages. Ms. Shay is my exception to the rule. Her characters feel so real; it is as if they just walked into my living room and made themselves at home. They're relating the story as opposed to me reading it. No way, I could close the book and go to bed. No way, I would want to.

This is one of those ultimate conflict stories too. She's a witch (not that she's excited about that fact) and his job is to eliminate her. A rocky start to a romance at best, but it gets better, much better. This is one of those call in sick and finish books or you'll get caught reading it at work.

Two Magical Thumbs Up

What a great book! I received this as part of an anthology. This author has a way of bringing her characters to life. I couldn't stop reading this story. The storyline is compelling. I loved this book. I can't wait to read the next one.
