Book Description

August 30, 2004
Lynn Morley and her best friend, Mouse, thought their lives would be back to normal after Mrs. Tuggle's house burned down. But now Lynn's little brother, Stevie, is acting strange, and when Lynn confronts him in his room, she discovers that the witch is back. Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

PW enjoyed the "good spooky fun" and "spine-tingling sense of foreboding" in the latest installment of Lynn and Mouse's ongoing battle with the malevolent Mrs. Tuggle--here, her spirit menaces the youngsters via her glass eye. Ages 9-12.

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-7-- Mrs. Tuggle was presumably destroyed when her house burned down in the third of Naylor's "Witch" books, The Witch Herself (Dell, 1988), but Lynn's younger brother has found Mrs. Tuggle's glass eye. Since the eye seems to be altering Stevie's personality, Lynn takes it and starts to change herself. Efforts to counter the eye with magic only make things worse, and Lynn's best friend saves her only by throwing the object into the flooded creek. The two girls are still as interesting and believable as in the first books, but the eye provides a different sort of menace than the old witch. A Turn of the Screw quality hints that an overactive imagination rather than witchcraft may be responsible, but the end supports the occult interpretation. The quality of writing and characterization makes this a truly scary story, much more so than the many series that are attempting to exploit the popularity of horror. The personality changes of characters who come under the influence of the witch or her eye sustain a convincingly threatening atmosphere that exceeds even Bellairs' books. This story will be as popular as those that preceeded it, and its ending suggests there is still more to come. --Carolyn Caywood, Virginia Beach Pub . Lib .

More About the Author

I guess I've been writing for about as long as I can remember. Telling stories, anyway, if not writing them down. I had my first short story published when I was sixteen, and wrote stories to help put myself through college, planning to become a clinical psychologist. By the time I graduated with a BA degree, however, I decided that writing was really my first love, so I gave up plans for graduate school and began writing full time.

I'm not happy unless I spend some time writing every day. It's as though pressure builds up inside me, and writing even a little helps to release it. On a hard-writing day, I write about six hours. Tending to other writing business, answering mail, and just thinking about a book takes another four hours. I spend from three months to a year on a children's book, depending on how well I know the characters before I begin and how much research I need to do. A novel for adults, because it's longer, takes a year or more. When my work is going well, I wake early in the mornings, hoping it's time to get up. When the writing is hard and the words are flat, I'm not very pleasant to be around.

Getting an idea for a book is the easy part. Keeping other ideas away while I'm working on one story is what's difficult. My books are based on things that have happened to me, things I have heard or read about, all mixed up with imaginings. The best part about writing is the moment a character comes alive on paper, or when a place that existed only in my head becomes real. There are no bands playing at this moment, no audience applauding--a very solitary time, actually--but it's what I like most. I've now had more than 120 books published, and about 2000 short stories, articles and poems.

I live in Bethesda, Maryland, with my husband, Rex, a speech pathologist, who's the first person to read my manuscripts when they're finished. Our sons, Jeff and Michael, are grown now, but along with their wives and children, we often enjoy vacations together in the mountains or at the ocean. When I'm not writing, I like to hike, swim, play the piano and attend the theater.

I'm lucky to have my family, because they have contributed a great deal to my books. But I'm also lucky to have the troop of noisy, chattering characters who travel with me inside my head. As long as they are poking, prodding, demanding a place in a book, I have things to do and stories to tell.

The book I am reading is called "The Witch's Eye", by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. She had been very entertaining in this book. The book is about a girl name Lynn, her family's suspicious neighbor Mrs Tuggle died in the fire that destroyed her house, and things are returning to normal. However Lynn cant shake the feeling that Mrs.Tuggle is dead, and her evil presence is rising again. Lynn hears old women hauntingly calling her at night, and her little brother is acting so strangely that Lynn is convinced Mrs.Tuggle is trying to harm him. But Lynn's dad doesnt want to hear it, her mom wont talk about it, and her best friend wishes the whole thing gets over with. Lynn is determined to find out why Mrs.Tuggle is reaching out from beyond the dead. Or why she really never disappeared.
I really liked this book because its mysterious. It keeps you wondering like what will happen at the end. The book was really good,I like the part when Lynn says to everyone that Mrs.Tuggle seems to be alive. That she isn't really dead. The good part of the book was that it was specific and everything was going the same way. So I really like it, Lynn was also a good character in this book. Her friend was good.
There really wasn't anything bad about this book. The Witch's Eye represents that there really wasn't suppose to be a good evil part. The witch was scary from all the things she does.Lynn actually tries really hard to find out about her. Why did the house explode, or why is she scarying them. One way of solving this problem for me would be setting a trap for her. Make her really say what, and who she is.
My favorite part of the book was when Lynn has to tell everyone what actually happened. As if where she was all these days, or who she actually is. Lynn had a hard time trying to convince everyone if Mrs.Tuggle is alive. I really liked the part because she had to go through a lot to save her family. It was a good book. You should actually read the book to find out what happenswhen everything is said out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shipping, October 1, 2009
The book is great and arrived in the condition promised. This is the second time I have ordered from this seller and I if the projected shipping date is 4-6 weeks the product always arrives at the latest date. I have received books from other sellers much faster than the promised shipping time. When children are excited about a book arriving its hard to keep the excitment alive when they are dissapointed everyday after the mail arrives and there is no book, expecially when other items ordered at the same time have arrived within days of sending the order. I did email the seller and asked them why it took so long to ship and they sent a response immediately, I just don't understand why other sellers can seem to ship much faster. If you don't mind waiting, this seller does have quality items in the condition promised.
