Book Description

Peach and Blake May 1, 2006
?Percy? Peach and Lucy Blake find themselves bewitched . . . In an area famous for the Lancashire Witches four centuries earlier, it seems that witchcraft still flourishes. A body is discovered in a derelict farmhouse, partly mummified and dreadfully damaged. But why did no one close to the murdered girl report her missing? Why was her flatmate so sure she was never coming back? And what was her connection to a modern day coven of both male and female witches?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

DCI Percy Peach's dispassionate, unblinking gaze and disbelieving smile usually have crooks, murderers, and thieves practically begging to confess. It's not so easy this time. The skeleton of a young woman found by two hikers is eventually identified as 23-year-old Annie Clark, a receptionist in a travel agency and a recent convert to witchcraft. Peach has plenty of suspects, including Annie's boyfriend, her roommate, and the leader of the witches' coven. Although they're all reluctant to talk at first, Percy's clever, subtle pressure eventually reveals that each of them is hiding a possible motive for murder. Despite the unhelpful interventions of his incompetent and much-loathed chief, Peach and his talented team eventually unearth the killer. Biting but hilarious wit, skillful writing, and an intriguing plot make this latest entry in Gregson's procedural series one of the best yet. If Reginald Hill or Peter Robinson readers don't know Gregson's series, they should. Emily Melton

This review is from: The Witch's Sabbath (Peach and Blake) (Hardcover)
Is Gregson the incompetent bungler in the Holmes novels? No, I am confusing with someone else. But why does that come to mind? No matter how many books have been written by the author, and this one has been published on both sides of the Atlantic, it is not a very well written, researched or original book. The characters are the same, the dialogue similar and the mystery who cares?
Doesn't really work, but I'll give the other books by the author a try.If There Wasn't Death
