3.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly spellbinding June 6, 2010
By M. Hall
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
As a fan of Harvest Moon and Rune Factory, I picked up 'Witch's Wish' with the hopes that Natsume would deliver an excellent game again. I won't say they failed completely, but while Witch's Wish is a fair way to pass the time, I wouldn't recommend this game for anyone who isn't a 12 year old female. That said, I'm not a 12 year old female, so my feelings about this game are slightly biased.
Now, the main storyline of Witch's Wish is that Vicky is a poor girl who can't afford magic school. Only the rich can afford magic and, therefor, use magic. A girl named Tanya wants to seal magic away to stop the rich and the poor from fighting. But Vicky learns how to use magic and sees that it can be used to help people. The story is divided into 'Chapters', most of which are episodic events in which Vicky uses her magic to help others. Sometimes the game allows you to participate in 'Witch One', a competition in which Vicky can duel other users of magic.
In order to actually use said magic, you will utilize the touch screen by drawing the design of a particular spell on the 'magic board'. Needless to say, this doesn't present much of a challenge, and gamers who are looking for something with deep and difficult gameplay should stay far, far away. But if you are, as I said before, a 12 year old girl, you will probably enjoy tracing the simple designs of the magic spells on the board with your stylus to cast the spells. I, however, found that it got boring and redundant after a while, and would rather point and click than have to continuously draw a circle over and over again to set my opponent aflame.
One major beef I have with this game is the graphics.

1.0 out of 5 stars I WISH This Game Hadn't Been HORRID August 9, 2010
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
For someone like me, who loves cutesy art, Halloween, witches, pumpkins, this game seemed so perfect! Awww, just look at the cute little moe witch! And it's simple, too, aimed for 10 year olds! Just the kind of game I like!

NOT. This game is insulting even to a ten year old. When I first opened the screen, I was excited by the prospect of really cute art, and decent music. Natsume! hadn't let me down with Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, and while I was expecting this game to be much, much easier, I wasn't expecting it to be garbage.

You play as Vicky, a young girl who lives with her grandmother. In their town, a great wall separates the people who are rich from those who are poor. The rich people can also use magic, which they learn at expensive magic schools. Somehow the poor people haven't yet rioted... it's not that kind of game. Anyways, Vicky blabs a bit about how she wants to be a witch to help her grandma, and then you see her grandma.

She looks like she was drawn by a COMPLETELY different artist. Probably because she was. Same as every townsperson. That cute, moe style? Only Vicky, Tanya, and Vicky's three other school friends are drawn in that style. Everyone else is drawn in the style of a NINTENDO WII AVATAR. It is incredibly clashing and I was wondering what the hell had happened at first. Vicky's OTHER classmates are cross-eyed Gaia On-line avatar wannabes. I am still in awe as to who the hell let this through final production like that. You won't see those cheap art screenshots on the back of the box. Nope.

Gameplay itself. I'm used to repetitive rune drawing from A Witch's Tale--where it is actually FUN. In that game, you can guess what magic enemies are weak to. In this game, there is no rhyme or reason.

2.0 out of 5 stars Witch's Wish for DS June 23, 2010
By 012467
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this for my brand new DSi XL because I was happy to see a new "cute anime" type game coming from Natsume. However, this game fell short of my expectations. I didn't expect it to be the greatest game, but I did expect it to at least be fun which it is not.

Pros:

*Well.. your main character is really cute..
*The storyline holds some depth
*The graphics are pretty nice most of the time
*Casting spells can be kind of fun
*The sound effects are realistic
*The music is really nice

Cons:

*As stated with the previous review, it does look like 2 seperate artists worked on this game. They do clash with the overall feel of the game
*The creators became lazy and there is double or triple of everyone except the main group of characters
*You watch more than play. Most the game is reading conversations and involves very little free play. You cannot even save when you want to most the time
*Casting spells is OK, but it can get very boring and repetitive. "Thrilling magical duels"? I think not.
*Anyone can do magic if they "learn" it at school by sketching symbols on a chalk board - completely ridiculous, but perhaps some can overlook it and children won't think into it that much
*Game length isn't very long, but it feels long because of the vast amount of conversations held
*The game doesn't flow well. I have now forgotten the point of the game because so many secondary events are taking place

All in all, I wish I hadn't of purchased it for 20$. It would've been OK for 10$, but not 20$. You may enjoy this game, but to each his own. I just didn't really like it all much. Maybe next time, Natsume
