A wonderful read that is ideal for Middle Grade Readers,
By
This review is from: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams (Hardcover)
Abbie would just like to be like a normal eleven year old girl. She wishes her only worries were her over bearing and heavy homework handed teacher Miss Linegar (rhymes with vinegar), and sharing secrets with her best friend Callie...But Abbie is a young witch and that adds a whole other dimension to her eleven year old being. For instance... she has a younger brother they call Munch. Munch can also do magic but has not figured out the boundaries of doing magic in non magical settings.... uhhhh.... like school. And really anywhere in public. Abbie is always having to keep an eye on him and put forget hexes on all those who see Munch in action. And of course there is Callie..... Abbie wishes she could share this secret with Callie, her one true best friend... but she can not. Who knew 11 could be so hard? And then comes Benjamin, the new kitten Abbie's dad brought home for her. Abbie has wanted a kitten for like EVER! Yet there is something different about this kitten who seems to enjoy reading everything he can get his paws on..... and that is where it really gets interesting... Abbie is a fun character that I can really see young girls from 7 - 15 really enjoying reading about. Yes, I would say this book is a MG (Middle Grade) read and I for one am cheering about that. While I have enjoyed many a YA, I also appreciate a well written MG to keep the pre YA's reading. It's a tough genre because you want it to be mature enough to hold their attention but not quite to the YA level of teen parties, dating, boyfriends, etc... Rhonda Hayter does well in putting forth a likable and interesting character in Abbie Adams. I look forward to what Abbie will be up to next, and I thing MG readers will as well.

Great Tween Read!,

The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams is a wonderful book for tweens. The characters are very relatable but the element of magic makes it an exciting, edge of the seat read. Rhonda Hayter, the author of the novel has worked as an actress and story analyst so she has a great background to enhance her imagination. This really comes through in her writing. My daughter really enjoyed this book and and had it finished in just one day.

A cute read,

An okay start to Hayter's writing career. The idea is adorable - Abbie is a witch, her parents are too, and her brother can morph. Abbie is caught between being true to her "witch self" and the mortal world. Her brother wants to eat his teacher, Abbie wants to tell her best friend everything, and a mysterious kitten has arrived within her household. Can Abbie survive all the expectations that are expected of her as a witch as as a mortal?

Fun and Creative Debut!,
This review is from: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams (Hardcover)
What a fun and original debut! I love reading middle grade because they never cease to make me smile and look back fondly at my elementary/middle school years.Abbie was a free spirited and extremely likable main character. Abbie, her younger brother, Munch, and her parents were all witches, but life wasn't always easy for them. Especially because Abbie doesn't have a Hogwarts to attend and must go to school with humans. This does cause Abbie to get into a bit of mischief because she occasionally has to do magic to keep her brother from accidentally revealing their secret. She also is so busy at home learning magic spells and witch history that she doesn't have much time for homework. My heart went out to Abbie because things really must have been hard for her. I mean who wants to have to keep such a big secret from your best friend? I loved how Abbie's parents and younger brother played such a prominent role in the story. They were sweet, if not a bit odd, and always treated their kids with kindness. Things got a little hectic for the Adams' when Abbie's new kitten turns out to be a human that was cursed and transformed into a feline by an evil witch. To further complicate things, "Tom" is not just any human, but the famous inventor Thomas Edison! From there a lot of twists and turns in the plot start occurring as the Adams' race to find a spell to make Tom a human again and return him to the past before history, and thus the present, is changed. The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams was a fast paced and creative debut sure to appeal to all middle grade readers. Abbie is a heroine I constantly wanted the best for and she always made me laugh. There were some interesting historical facts intertwined in the story and Rhonda Hayter presented witches in her own fun way. I definitely recommend this to anyone eight and up and I'm looking forward to reading more by Rhonda Hayter in the future! Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

SO cute!,

I was recently sent an adorable Middle Grades ("Tween") book to review, called "The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams".It was such a sweet, good read. Well written, with fun and conversational dialogue that makes for a pleasant and enjoyable read. Your child will really like it! The book ranges on such familiar topics as family, siblings, school, fitting in, friends, and all sorts of situations that we can all relate to- even those of us who have never experienced preforming magic! "The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams" is a great book for kids who love to read, but is "light" enough for those who struggle with reading to enjoy as well- and may encourage them to give reading another try. I am a firm believer in giving kids a wide range of books to choose from- those that love to read will find so many books appealing. Those that don't, may need to try a few to find out why reading is wonderful Abbie Adams may just be able to cast her spell on your child- I know she enchanted me! Full Review here- [...].

Fun Book, Fun Characters!,
This review is from: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams (Hardcover)
Gosh, I enjoyed this book! I didn't even mean to sit down and read it, but when it fell out of the TBR stack, I couldn't help myself. I got caught up in Abbie's witchy worries from the first page! The poor girl is a great kid, and she was doing double time trying to keep her unruly younger brother under control at school, and keep the fact that she's a witch a secret from everyone, including her BFF. I was totally charmed by Abbie, and I hope there will be more chances to spend time with her.Rhonda Hayter's characters cracked me up. Abbie's dad gets as excited as her little brother, and colored smoke puffs out of his ears, or he zooms around the house in a fit of excitement. Her mom is calm and cool next to the rest of Abbie's family members. Though stern, she is also so understanding, which makes Abbie's rare lapses in judgment even more compelling. Abbie knows that she is making a mistake, but she is so overwhelmed that she can't help herself. I adored the relationships and the family dynamics in the book. Abbie's world is one of wonder and magic. She goes to a regular school so she can better understand her non-magical peers, but she also has to study up on her witchy skills, too. She is one busy girl! She also is not perfect, and that is what I liked best about her. She gets in trouble for not doing her homework, trying to cover for her brother Munch, and for inadvertent discharges of built up magic. She even gets sent to the Principal's office! More than once! When a stray kitten causes new complications in her life, her entire family gets involved to solve the tiny black feline's problems. For a light-hearted MG read, flush with magic and great characters, look no further than The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams. It really is a lot of fun to read. [...]

Loved this book!,
This review is from: The Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams (Hardcover)
Abbie Adams and her family come from a long line of witches, and she's having a tough time keeping it a secret from her best friend and the rest of her school, especially the day her little brother morphs into a wolf and tries to eat his teacher. That's also the day her father brings home a kitten. But when Abbie looks into the kitten's eyes, she realizes there's a boy in there! He's under a spell and soon the whole family bands together to rescue him. They are shocked to realize he's none other than the young Thomas Edison, and if they don't save him fast, he'll never change the world with his inventions. This is a perfect book for children in middle school. I gave this book to my cousin who is in 7th grade and she loved it. You can really feel for the character when she tried to fit in with everyone else because deep down thats what everyone is trying to do.

It's a regular novel written at their level in an intelligent way. This book will help transition your tweens into reading adult novels and will build their love of reading. I will be giving this book to my boyfriend's nieces this Christmas.I'm hoping we'll be hearing more about Abbie Adams... it would make for a great series!
