(quote about The CONduct Series) "This is one hell of a series." -- Shannon from Cocktails and Books

In a world gripped by organized crime, family dysfunction, and dim hopes of redemption, can true love persevere? For Sophie Taylor, a beautiful psychologist who lost everything when she violated an ethical boundary, and Grant Madsen, a handsome naval officer who sacrificed everything to protect a loved one, finding that love may carry an unbearable cost.

Starting their lives over in Chicago, both are fighting influences from their family and running as fast as they can to escape the past. When their paths cross outside the parole officer's door, the attraction is instantaneous. But a hidden connection may not only shatter their fledgling love, but prove deadly to them both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arresting Plot line and CONvincing Characters July 19, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Spoiler Free: This is a superb story that draws you into the lives of Sophie Taylor and Grant Madsen. From the beginning you are taken by these two characters and their struggles to start a new existence after their lives were completely shattered by their past mistakes. From the moment they meet and through the evolution of their relationship, you are cheering them on at every step but slowly as you dive into their intricate back stories that led them to where they were in the beginning of the story, you only see the on-coming storm, wondering when the storm will hit but knowing that the devastation would be substantial once it does.....and of course it does.

I loved the way the author (Jennifer Lane) examines thoroughly the way the characters ended up in the situations that they found themselves in, dissecting their family dynamics and interaction and personality traits that developed from their unique yet sometimes similar circumstances, you understand all too well how they got to that break point. You examine and see how the sum of all the parts make the whole picture and now that the characters begin to see that picture, they begin to change it, mold it instead of accepting what is there, starting that long journey of change. I loved the plot twists and turns of the story, you will NOT be disappointed. The characters (Primary and Secondary) draw you in and you feel strongly, whether it be good or bad, and enjoy the adventure together. The more you discover about these characters the more you get invested into this incredible story.

With all the drama, suspense, action and passion that swirls within this book, you will get caught up in it and love every moment. This book is EXCELLENT!!! and I can't wait for the sequel which I hope is coming very soon!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing first novel August 28, 2010
By Cilou6
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was lucky enough to recieve this book on day one of my holiday. Lucky because, once I started reading it, I just couldn't put it down... I just had to know what was coming next! So holidays are the perfect time for it!
I really liked the way that Jennifer Lane discloses the backgrounds of her characters, little by little, through flashbacks and dialogue - not only of the two main characters but also of all the surrounding characters - giving the book a deepness which I appreciate to find when I read.
Maybe this is because she began writing for fanfic sites where you post one chapter at a time, but there is no downtime, no useless material in this book - each chapter enlightens you about what came before and gives you a need to find out what's coming next.
I've often been thinking "OMG! What could she/he/they do to solve this situation ?!" All the suspense part of the book when the reader knows what the characters don't and we fear/want them to know about is great!
Another good aspect of the book, besides the rich vocabulary and the rythmical style, is that the relationships between the characters feel "true". Even if sometimes dysfunctionnal, the relationships are always realistic and you find yourself being pleased, annoyed, moved or smiling when you read about the characters' interactions. I cried, I smiled, I feared for them but I have one complaint: I want more!!!
I am so looking forward to the sequel! Bravo Jennifer! You gave us an amazing first novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner August 27, 2010
By Minnie
Format:Paperback
My mark of a good book is one that I stay up too late reading. Well, With Good Behavior meets that mark, and then some...for I stayed up entirely too late for three nights in a row! I would think just one more chapter and then chapter would lead me to another and then another....I loved the titles of each chapter...and how they tied into snipets of conversations in those chapters (Sexy Vegetables for one!). Only one complaint for me about the book.....why couldnt Sophie and Grant be Cubs fans?

More About the Author

People fascinate the psychologist/author (psycho author) known as Jennifer Lane. Her therapy clients talk to her all day long about their dreams and secrets, and her characters tell her their stories at night. Jen delights in peeling away the layers to scrutinize their psyches and emotions. But please rest assured, dear reader, she isn't psychoanalyzing you right now. She's already got too many voices in her head!

Stories of redemption interest Jen the most, especially the healing power of love and empathy. She is the author of The CONduct Series---romantic suspense for adult readers---and is currently at work on the third and final installment: On Best Behavior. Streamline is her first foray into writing for young adults, but she's found this sort of writing even more fun. A former college swimmer, Jen was able to put a lot of her own experiences into this book.

Whether writing or reading, Jen loves stories that make her laugh and cry. In her spare time she enjoys exercising, attending book club, and hanging out with her sisters and their families in Chicago and Hilton Head.

With Good Behavior was a Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for 2010 Romance of the Year.
