Book Description

A war-weary ex-soldier. An untamable woman. Love doesn’t stand a chance in hell…

The Cutteridge Family, Book 2

Hardened in childhood by the death of her parents, then left to run the family’s southwestern territory ranch when her brother rode off to fight for the Union years before, Callie Cutteridge hides her heartbreak behind a mask of self-sufficiency. Breaking horses for the army proves she’s neither delicate nor helpless. When a former cavalry officer shows up claiming to own her brother’s half of the Arizona ranch, she steels herself to resist the handsome stranger’s intention to govern even one single aspect of her life. After all, loving means losing…to her it always has.

For months, Jackson Neale has looked forward to putting the bloodstained battlefields back east behind him. Callie isn’t the agreeable angel her brother led him to believe, but he’s damned well not the useless rake this foul-mouthed hellion thinks he is, either. His quest for calm stability contradicts sharply with her need for control, yet still their heartstrings tangle. But how can these mistrusting partners transform their fiery passion into happily-ever-after?

Warning: Contains a high-strung, tart-tongued heroine who drives the hero past the point of rational thought. If she were a man, he’d be happy to connect a well-aimed fist at her jaw. As it is, he’d be happy to give her foul mouth a good scrubbing with a bar of soap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Western Romance with Characters who sizzle August 5, 2014
By MaryVee
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great western romance and a great followup to NO GREATER GLORY. Jackson Neale goes west to claim his half of the ranch he purchased from his friend at the end of the Civil War. The other half is owned by his friend's sister, Callie Cutteridge. Hellion is the word used to describe her, and indeed, she is. But the sparks fly and fly and fly, and you know there'll be a happy ending sooner or later.

Cindy Nord did again an amazing job. I like that the story bring us in a totally different part of the country and that the story is different than No greater Glory.
The War is over, but a battle is raging between Jakson Neale and Colleen Cutteridge (Callie), from their first encounter.
Callie doesn't welcome Jackson With open arms. She doesn't want to get close to Jackson and risks to get her heart broken again.
They are both passionate and strong-headed.Fire sparks are flying high between those two but the danger from the Indians make them caring for each other. There are of course news great characters like Gus and Dillon.
Slowly but surely they are more and more attracted to each other but not without fighting the attraction.
The story is so well written with always a lot of details but nothing boring, just interesting and that make the story so real.
Even if the story can I think stand alone, I was happy to read again about Reece and Emaline.
Thank you Cindy Nord for writing and sharing this beautiful story I loved it and really loved Jackson and Callie.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have been waiting for this one! August 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Well I have been waiting to read this novel, after having read Ms Nords first one, "No Greater Glory", from the Cutteridge series. I was interested in seeing if she could carry over, into her second book, the same depth of knowledge and love for her subject matter as she so clearly shared in her first piece of work. As happens so often with new artists they seem to exhaust all of their passions and knowlegde on one "perfect" piece of work, and then fizzle out and never seem able to capture that same passion again.
I was so pleased to discover that this in NO WAY describes the outcome of Ms Nords second novel. She has been able to completly carry over the love she has for her chosen craft and has, once again, written a book that anyone can lose themselves into for many, many hours. She has successfully moved her series, from the Civil War battlefields, to the post Civil War Western United States. Arizona, to be exact. She presents this land and it's inhabitants in a way that is not only believable, but brings the reader into the campfires and corrals, and might I say into the "OPEN ARMS" of others, of the old west. This is another beautiful story as told by a truly gifted author. AND while this is a second book of a three book series, it has the "Chops" to stand alone, by itself, as an excellent piece of work. Do yourself a favor and invest some of your precious time into this series by Cindy Nord.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting, believable story of the old west. August 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An exciting, believable story of the old west. The "hellion" Colleen (Callie and sometimes just Cal) was one tough woman. Jackson fortunately had the fortitude to put up with her actions and believe me there were plenty of them. Cindy Nord had to of done a lot of research on the time period. Old Gus had me grinning many times. In the end of the book I gasped when Gus and Callie came under attack....had to quit reading for a few minutes because I was afraid of what was coming next. I never like to be exacting in reviews because I think a person needs to read the story without giving away too much of the plot. I'm anxious to read Dillon's story now....another character in the story. Read With Open Arms....it will leave you wanting to read more and more of Cindy Nord's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Partner's Hurt Love and Trust August 10, 2014
By Shirl
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Cindy Nord has done it again! I love this second book even more then her first. We all fell in love with Reece in No Greater Glory, but wait until you meet his spunky sister Callie and Jackson, the man Reece sells his half of the ranch to.

Partners or enemies? Is Callie so independent she doesn't need or want a handsome partner at the ranch or is there a hidden fear of getting hurt again? Is it that hurt that makes her such a hellion? Can Jackson tame her fear as he does with horses?

This writer has really done her research. The detail in this story makes you see and feel as if you are living the part you are reading The emotions are strong, the characters are full of life. I love this book and highly recommend it to all.

Cindy Nord’s book, With Open Arms, is the story of Reece Cutteridge’s sister, Callie Cutteridge. She has been running the family horse ranch, Dos Caballos, in the Arizona Territory since her brother left to fight in the Civil War. Then, unexpectedly, she is presented with new partner, Jackson Neale.

“Without removing his gaze, he reached into his frock coat. With the speed of a striking rattlesnake, an envelope appeared in his leather-gloved hand, then rose between them until level with her eyes. “The name’s Jackson Neale and this makes me your new partner.” ”

The story is exciting and filled with adventures that are reminiscent of Zane Gray’s Riders of the Purple Sage. The love story of Callie and Jackson is teeming with misunderstanding and passion. The two lovers both find differing explanations for each other’s words and actions, which lead to heartbreaking decisions made by each of them that rips them apart; then circumstances bring them back together.
Ms. Nord is a master at her chosen craft. She does extensive research on everything from clothing to the history of the old west culture. Her characters are all people you would like to know, especially if you lived in their era. You will be transported to the wilds of an 1866 western horse ranch and live within the unsettling society of the times. You will be thrilled as you continue to follow the Cutteridge family in With Open Arms.
Born into a family of educators, Cindy Nord moved from the southwestern Arizona desert to southwestern Indiana during her teenage years. After the birth of her two sons, she became a stay-at-home mom. At this point, she decided to try writing an historical romance with her own special twist. The result, No Greater Glory.
