Lifelong pastor, sometime broadcaster, tireless speaker and prolific author Warren Wiersbe first published this devotional commentary in 1991, and it continues to serve Bible readers well. Using the New King James Version, Dr. Wiersbe helps Christians get the most out of their study. Each book in the Bible is examined chapter by chapter, drawing upon thoughts and notes he's collected over decades of ministry. A brief introduction puts each book in perspective, helping the reader understand some of the time and place details in which the book was written and spotlighting key themes to look for. Wiersbe then offers brief but insightful commentary as you proceed through the chapters, highlighting the Biblical lessons and life contexts to be found. He cautions that his book is not meant to be read as a "substitute" for the Bible, but with it. I've found it most helpful to read "With the Word" with a highlighter pen close by, Wiersbe's sensible meat-and-potatoes commentaries frequently compelling you to re-read entire passages as you draw more understanding and spiritual value than ever before. Exactly what a good and helpful guide should do.

Warren Wiersbe has an unusual ability to put things well for the non-scholar. Truth to be told those who preach and are theologically trained will find the contents helpful for ideas.

I find "With the Word" to be a pleasant companion to daily bible readings. It has enough material to deepen your thinking, but it isn't a commentary.

This book is not a replacement for the Bible though it does look much thicker than most Bibles I've seen it won't feed you like the Word will.

This book does give you background information and insight into every chapter of the Bible. So if you're reading through the Bible in a year just as a resolution this is an excellent book to have. It will help you stay focused and you'll get more from the chapters as you read them than you would get if you just read them.

For me I use the handbook as a companion to my deviotional or just when I get a hankering to hop into the Word.

If the Bible scares you a bit because of it's age or whatever. This book will help you sort it out and make you feel as if someone who's been there is with you every step of the way.

This handy small book serves as a good, biblical quick reference to understanding the bible. It gives brief yet insightful & practical summary-like spiritual lessons for each chapter of the bible w/ scripture reference. And here & there, maybe every 5 or so chapters, there is a box of a relevant specific spiritual truth w/ useful bible references. If you want more in depth reference, this book is not what you should be looking for, you can try Wiersbe Bible Commentary 2 Vol Set (which I do not own but has great reviews) or my family's favorite: Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible.
(FYI, this book is also published under another title: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary)

This is a wonderful devotional tool to have next to your bible. It has a break down of every chapter of the bible that helps one to understand and apply that chapter to their own life. It is also set up well for kindle with a table of contents that is easy to navigate to books of the bible and to the specific chapter you are reading.

Wiersbe is a excellent commentator. The With the Word Commentary (Kindle) is a chapter by chapter devotional guide. It is not a verse by verse commentary and has only general details. If you want a good devotional guide Wiersbe's incites are excellent.
