Format: Paperback
Dr. Sutherland was part of a great tradition of doctors who would actually experiment on their own bodies first before they would prescribe treatments or medications to others, good Western doctors such as Samuel Hanheman, Andrew Still, Edmund Bach, Willhelm Reich, and Robert Rhondell Gibson. Story goes, while Dr. Sutherland's wife, Adah, watched and worried, he tested out his hypothesis and would wrap his head very tightly with cloth and vice-like devices of the era such as leather football helmets, to see if the smooth functioning of his body would be affected. It was. His walking was shortly impaired and he developed severe headaches and digestive disorders, to name only a few of his symptoms. Parts of his body had become tight and restricted only because of the pressures he had applied to his head! Adah Sutherland, sensitively documents her husband's early experiments in her book, With Thinking Fingers. This is a book I've heard of since my early training in craniosacral and just the thought of it has been a lasting source of inspiration for me. You can find it at a real price, less than twenty dollars, by searching for it at the Cranial Academy online bookshop. Thank goodness for the Cranial Academy!Touch the Ocean: The Power of Our Collective Emotions
