Book Description

August 5, 2003
Driven by the folklore of his ancestors, Carl Dixon charts a course for his life based upon the values of personal accountability and collective responsibility. Having witnessed a series of tragic events as an adolescent, Carl hungers to administer justice for those unable to defend themselves. In the process he discovers that his actions bring feelings of addictive physical power and emotional rapture. Challenging the teachings of the church and the law, he is determined to live by the philosophies crafted by his experiences growing up in a blue-collar Pennsylvania steel town. Throughout his life Carl dwells upon the darkness of the human spirit, and only through an unexpected source does he come to realize that evil is not an inherent trait among men

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant exposition, January 30, 2004
By

This review is from: The Withering Vine (Paperback)
A important new voice emerges, with a backdrop in Pittsburgh. The author has captured the simple cadence of Pittsburgh peasants, as they go about their humdrum social encounters. I stayed up all night until I finished. I was riveted. It was almost like I'd grown up with the writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read book!, November 3, 2003
By
Jackie (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Withering Vine (Paperback)
The Withering vine is an extremely exciting book that keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. Charles Halt has such a descriptive way with his words that you can actually see an image of what is going on in your mind. Charles Halt also develops all the Characters so well, you can actually feel what they are feeling. It is such a well balanced book with a little something for all interest. If you are going to read one book this year, this is the one you will want to read. A truly talented author! I am looking forward to reading more books by Charles B. Halt.
