5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best concert DVD I have seen
I bought this DVD about a month ago and have seen the concert several times already. Setting aside the fact that Sharon is beautiful and has a beautiful voice, the whole band is just awesome together, they put on a show that is infectious making you want more. I haven't been this excited about a DVD album since Iron Maiden's "Live after Death" and Rush's "Exit Stage...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as "live" as you might expect!
The Silent Force was one of my favourite albums at the time, and, needless to say, I was very excited about seeing how they would execute their rich sound on stage. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find that the method is to get the drummer and singer to perform to a backing tape of bass, guitars, and orchestra. I obviously can't speak for the other reviewers of this...

I haven't been this excited about a DVD album since Iron Maiden's "Live after Death" and Rush's "Exit Stage Left". The only sad thing is that Within Temptation and others like Nightwish, After Forever, etc rarely tour in the United States. I wish they would so that they can infuse the uninteresting and mind-numbing US music scene with some energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars PAL format not NTSC, March 2, 2007
I got my copy directly from Amazon and it is a PAL format DVD. Now I have a player that will play PAL discs but most buyers will not. That said, this is a fantastic concert with great sound and stunningly sharp visuals. Sharon den Adel is not only a very beautiful woman but is perhaps the best female vocalist fronting a metal band, especially now that Tarja is not longer fronting Nightwish.

Get it by all means if you're a fan, but just be aware that this is actually a PAL format DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS LADY CAN SING !!!, July 1, 2009

This review is from: Within Temptation: The Silent Force Tour (DVD)
Bored with most current rock, I entered the world of Goth Rock through
Evanescence, then Nightwish, Leave's Eyes and now these folks.
Within Temptation has a great band, but and incredible singer (which is
normal for most Goth Rock bands) This captures the group at their
earlier phase, and is very good. If you don't have their most recent live show "Black Symphony" you are really missing some great music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music, exhaustive (and exhausting) extras, February 27, 2010
It has become almost routine now for a number of band to put out a live release of some description for each tour they do. In the case of symphonic metal/symphonic rock crew Within Temptation this is the DVD of the tour of their Silent Force album which took their fortunes to a new level.

Split into two discs, disc one comprises 165 minutes of footage of the band treading the boards across Europe - Netherlands, Finland and Belgium to be precise. The bulk of the footage comes from Java Island which with a nice stage, full light show etc and the interesting presence of a large cruise liner in the background of many of the camera angles certainly makes for a visually striking as well as musically excellent package. The sound quality is as good as you'd expect and the camera work is quite nice. Those fans who didn't appreciate the rapid camera angle changes of their later Black Symphony DVD may appreciate this more as there is less jumping around here and more time to enjoy the performance without constantly adjusting to the new camera angle. Extras to disc one are the music videos for Stand My Ground, Memories and Angels.

Disc two is the home of the bulk of the extras. All 182 minutes of them. Again there is an air of quality about pretty much anything this band does so many of the interviews are somewhat interesting and some of the making of... sections are quite useful. Also useful are some of the little snippets of life on the road that make the band and their crew more human, if you take my meaning. The problem is however that all this backstage stuff is pretty painful stuff, much of it is stuff you are never going to want to watch again. I mean inside jokes on the bus, chatting while they are eating, sitting around in backstage areas, people getting haircuts.... you get the idea of what I'm on about here don't you? It's not really entertaining and it's a pitfall that so many bands fall into (although watching Jens Johansson blow up a toilet in the Stratovarius DVD Infinite Visions was at least mildly amusing). Disc two is salvaged a bit however by some extra concert footage as well as the abovementioned behind the scenes tidbits.

But please don't let my disinterest in the minutiae of life on the road for Within Temptation dissuade you from buying this DVD. The concert stuff really is great and the indefinable X factor this band has shines through relentlessly and as a companion to the more insanely overblown (in a good way) Black Symphony DVD this is pretty much a must have item for your DVD rack if you are one of the bands fans. Dig in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressed by their onstage performance, January 19, 2009
By
Great to see many of my favourite songs performed live and with such effect. Also includes the music videos to 3 of their songs, their 'Angels' and 'Memories' like mini movies. Some of the Bloopers just consisted of giggling for what seemed like a long time but also included footage of one band member saving another from an on stage effect - awesome. Overall a great DVD that is going to get a lot of play in my household.

Within Temptation never fails to put on a great show! This DVD is a great package for any fan! You get to see concerts from different countries/festivals including the big one performed in Java Island, Amsterdam. It also features a lot of backstage material, "making of", and a lot of interviews and fun stuff! Don't worry for those of you who don't speak Dutch like me, there are English subtitles for most everything! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Within Temptation- Silent Force Tour, June 21, 2006
A Kid's Review
This is must-have for Within Temptation fans. I discovered them when I listened to Evanescence and someone told me Evanescence sounded like Within Temptation. Sharon den Adel has an amazing voice. I've never heard anyone that has that type of voice. She has a very strong voice and it goes nicely with the rest of the band's heavy rock.
