5.0 out of 5 stars Unapologetic Social Gospel, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Without Apology: The Heroes, the Heritage and the Hope of Liberal Quakerism (Paperback)
Chuck Fager is well-known to Quakers and here he takes part in the intra-denominational battle between the evangelicalists and the universalists coming down solidly in the middle as a Christian liberal in the line of original Quakerism. His research is revealing to those in the Religious Society of Friends who think that one side or the other has been good or true to the original Light of Christ in all persons that made Quakers leaders in so many social reforms (anti-slavery, women's rights...). Still it is nice to read something that is religious and spiritually liberating without berating us about born-again redemption.
