The author engages an insightful exploration of the history of not only bridge building, but also other corellated issues. For example, an entire chapter is devoted to labor relations found in the developing nation. Many hard questions are posed: the value of labor in the corporate perspective? the motivation of post-accident financial settlements? the implications of immigrant labor? the role of company housing/benefits? The above questions are just a brief sampling of the insightful peripheral qualities the author couches into a very readable and informative exploration of one of the nation's leading bridge manufacturers during the turn of the 19th century.
