Very factual and unbiased portrayal,
This review is from: Without Precedent: The Life of Susie Marshall Sharp (Hardcover)
The author gives an excellent portrayal of a brilliant lawyer who was fair and just in all her decisions. She studied the law and applied it justly. Susie Sharp was very deserving of the success she achieved. The writer included much of Judge Sharp's personal feelings for her friends and colleagues, but the reader never lost sight of Judge Sharp's ability to interpret the law. I was pleased to learn that she had romantic feelings toward some of her colleagues, but those feelings didn't seem to interfere with her dedication to her work. The book is enlightening and enjoyable --- a must read.

I bought this book because I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Sharp family in Bitter Blood by Jerry Bledsoe. This book was well written; and Judge Sharp is a fascinating woman, making this a five-star read. The book covers her family's life, her own life from beginning to end, her personal life which was a real shocker, and of course her career. It was interesting to see how she broke through so many barriers without even really trying, and the author did an excellent job of explaining how that was the case. I've always admired Judge Sharp from what I knew of her - now I admire her even more.

A fine run through the history of higher education and the state of the law within North Carolina seen through the eyes of a pioneering woman, first female state Supreme Court Justice. Susan Sharp's personal romantic life and the amount of detail about daily life that she recorded and that the author judiciously selects to include add interest.
