Book Description

WARNING: This book contains content that may be offensive to some readers. It is an instruction guide covering tactical actions and capabilities which should only be executed in last-resort survival situations.

This book was written for non-military readers who believe in self-reliance and wish to develop advanced, just-in-case capabilities for themselves and their families. It will lead the reader through progressively more complex preparations and activities.

Written by Joe Nobody, author of the bestselling HOLDING YOUR GROUND series of books, this work addresses skills that may be necessary to survive if a breakdown of society or government should occur.

The work covers topics such as camouflage, breaching, hiding, stalking, looting, scavenging, infiltration and disguise. The book includes numerous examples, special equipment, exercises and instructional text on how to plan, equip and execute these actions in a potentially hostile, post-SHTF environment. It takes the reader through various scenarios and provides guidance should TEOTWAWKI occur and extreme measures are required to survive.

From the Author

I didn't want to write this book. It goes against my grain. I am a positive, optimistic person, and the subject matter of this work is dark and foreboding.

It speaks of a time when my meticulous preparations fail, and I have to resort to the very behavior that I have campaigned to eradicate. It advocates and teaches skills and actions that I despise in others. Yet, the very creed of self-reliance is preparing---for whatever may happen. Are we so confident that the proverbial S will HTF only one time? Where is it written that society will immediately bounce back, returning civilization quickly to its pre-SHTF state? Is there no such thing as TEOTWAWKI II? What happens when my preparations are not enough?

Our forefathers possessed skills that we respect, in which they lived valuable lives without the advantages of electricity and other modern conveniences. Despite all of their self-reliance, skills, and knowledge, disaster still struck. Drought, Indian raids, war, and even weather that destroyed crops endangered their lives. They often struggled to survive, despite all of their preparations. In a post-SHTF society, there will likely be no resources for an already starving population if disaster strikes - again.

Without Rule of Law assumes that such a time arrives when anarchy is pervasive, and the remnants of humanity are struggling to re-establish civilization. Governmental resources are thin or nonexistent. Do you have a plan for this contingency? What additional skills or means would you need on hand to prepare for this? I hope this work helps in your preparations and generates a thought process allowing you to address this threat.

About the fake reviews part, I found that out after posting my original review. It appears that the author is posting some of the 5 star reviews for this book. See my comments in response to the author below for more info on that. Also, it looks like the author is using his multiple accounts to mark this review as "not helpful" so it won't show up to other people. If you found it helpful, please consider marking it as "helpful" so he can't silence this.

Original review:

I bought this book after seeing that it had a four star review. I figured it must be decent or it wouldn't have four stars. Boy was I wrong. After having read this book and looking at the reviews again, it's apparent that the people leaving these reviews are pretty inexperienced in this field and don't know enough to detect that the author is lacking some qualifications to write a book like this.

Here are a couple glaring errors that on their own led me to question the rest of what's written in the book:

1) The book says to invest a few thousand dollars into good quality optics for your rifle, and purchase a Gen III auto-gated PVS-14 night vision monocle. He then tells you to mount the PVS-14 IN FRONT OF the rifle scope. He even includes a photo of what is presumably his AR-15 with a PVS-14 mounted in front of what looks like a high power scope. The level of fail here is just astounding. A PVS-14 is always mounted behind your optic, especially a high powered scope!

2) A few pages are spent on the subject of climbing. The author recommends using 400 to 600 pound test fishing line or paracord. He says you can use a larger fishing hook as a "grappling hook".

2.0 out of 5 stars Limited Value June 18, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Limited value and I was not convinced the author had first hand experience in these areas.

Examples:
1) Carry a rifle (AND cleaning/maintenance kit) AND pistol at ALL times. There was no discussion on concealed weapons or rules of engagement. I don't think "stay away from people" really covers it.

2) Very limited discussions on disguise. There is only one discussed for an urban environment. Be a homeless person.

3) Very limited discussion on hiding in an urban setting. There is only one example. Hide under some trash bags.

4) Author actually suggests hiding in a manure pile. Is this even possible? Would you use a shovel to sling s---t onto yourself? He is making the point that people will spend less time searching unpleasant places. True, but a manure pile can be inspected well enough from 20 feet away. More than close enough to see the wet disturbed manure.

5) Make a "rope" ladder for accessing rooftops from an 18 gauge fishing treble hook and 600 lb test fishing line. There is not nearly enough information to convince me this is practical. An inventory of standard access approaches to roofs on commercial buildings and where they are generally located might have been nice.

6) Very few diagrams and those provided are so simple that they do not add value over verbal descriptions.

7) Pictures of equipment are very limited and don't really add value. Seems like they were just thrown in to take up space.

8) Author spends time talking about digging a hole to hide in and some pros and cons of shovel design. I can't imagine a situation where this is really the right solution. Most places will not have deep loose soil. The author admits this could take 3 hours.

4.0 out of 5 stars READ ME: Preppers Guide to Stealth & Evasion May 6, 2012

READ ME: Preppers Guide to Stealth & Evasion

This book "Without Rule of Law: Advanced Skills Help You Survive" by Joe Nobody is targeted toward Preppers with limited to intermediate skill level. However this book is an excellent refresher to the experienced Prepper. Some of the reviewers have stated that this book is just a rehash of military manuals and knowledge. Respectfully, I would disagree, as this book does cover some military related tactics, techniques and procedures; however these are not cut and paste vignettes. It is true that you may find some of this information in some military manuals, but not distilled of military jargon for the layman and regurgitated into the Prepper perspective for immediate use. To me some of the highlights of this book include Chapter 7 "How to Hide", chapter 8 "How to Evade" and chapter 10 "How to Scavenge" all of which add interesting insight to these topics from the civilian/Prepper perspective. Additionally, the information as presented in this book would be hard to find in any military related manuals. Overall, I personally did not find any new revelations in this book, however this is not a bad thing as I have 23 years of military special operations background. But for the civilian Prepper with limited military know-how this book is an excellent introduction to the skill-sets. I personally would recommend this book to others looking to expand their survivability when the grid goes down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much needed informaiton... February 23, 2012

Format:Paperback
I was reassured by the ideas and the plans covered. We are prepping like crazy, but all the prep in the world could still leave us vulnerable if our stored food/supplies are stolen/looted or destroyed. Each of these books gives a new position on things I haven't really thought out, like hiding in plain sight (looking like a homeless person) and getting familiar with specific community locations that will be vital for survival, and accessing a building using a car jack etc. These are ideas we can implement/prepare for now while there is still time/resources. This book has hands-on ideas that you will save your life when there is no one else to save yourself but you. I'm ready to start working on these plans/exercises NOW, although I hope our world never gets bad enough to need to defend our supplies etc. I am getting another one a friend of ours.

More About the Author

Joe Nobody (pen name for the author who wishes to keep his identity confidential) has provided systems, consulting and training for the U.S. Army, Department of Homeland Security, Office of Naval Research, United States Border Patrol as well as several private firms and government agencies which cannot be disclosed.

He is currently active in this area and for the security of his family and ongoing business, wishes to remain anonymous.

He has over 30 years of competitive shooting experience, including IPSC, NRA, and other related organizations. He has been a firearms instructor and consultant for over 30 years and holds the rights to a United States Patent for a firearms modification.

Joe initially became involved in helping private citizens "prepare" at the request of his students and clients. A conscientious instructor, he would always inquire as to why they wanted to learn certain skills or techniques and often the response was to prepare for more than just simple home invasion or self-defense. If you ask Joe what his greatest attribute is, he will tell you he is a "problem solver" and uses his formal education in Systems Engineering to this end.

"As the economy worsens, world tensions rise, and the modern media propagates bad news faster than ever before, more and more people want to prepare. I wrote HOLDING because it allows me to reach more of the good folks who are concerned about their security. I want them to sleep better at night knowing they have a plan of defense should the 'Event' ever occur."
