4.0 out of 5 stars About as good as anyone ever did 80s synth-pop, March 14, 2010

This review is from: Without Walls (Audio Cassette)
This is a pretty good album that holds up pretty well today as long as you're willing to consider this a product of its time. Sembello's a really solid pop songwriter and a fluid guitarist and vocalist; here's he's joined by a number of studio heavies and consistent production. I'd say the high spots are "What You Really Want," "Tear Down The Walls" with its lofty Yes-like vocals, "Gravity" (used in the movie COCOON, with a video directed by Ron Howard), Teena-Marie-like funkfest "Dangerous," and the particularly strong "Is This The Way To Paradise." The rest of the album doesn't do a lot for me..."Wonder Where You Are" is a pop ballad that sounds just like stuff on the first Clarke/Duke Project album, Jeffrey Osborne, etc. and is par for that particular course...the rest is a little too "period" and overwroughtly so. Probably couldn't have been helped.
