Book Description

Cheek April 22, 2010
Eleanor Romano, researcher and art historian, is known for being thoughtful and cautious. She rarely takes risks, choosing instead to live vicariously through her best friend Nora's sexual exploits. It's difficult to be spontaneous when you're constantly fact-checking, always questioning yourself, adding in the proper footnotes. When Eleanor discovers an ancient Greek manuscript in the wreckage of an antique urn, she has no idea what doors it will open, starting with the door to LA's exclusive club, The Pink Fedora, and leading to the office door of the famous—and sexy—British translator, Anthony Rule.

More About the Author

Called a trollop with a laptop by East Bay Express, Alison Tyler is naughty and she knows it.

Over the past 20 years, Ms. Tyler has written more than 25 explicit novels, including Learning to Love It, Strictly Confidential, Sweet Thing, Sticky Fingers, and Something About Workmen (all published by Black Lace), as well as Rumors, Tiffany Twisted, and Melt With You (Cheek). Her novels and short stories have been translated into Japanese, Dutch, German, Italian, Norwegian, and Spanish. Her stories have appeared in more than 100 anthologies.

When not writing saucy short stories, Ms. Tyler edits erotic anthologies. She's recently completed her 50th collection, Alison's Wonderland (Harlequin, 2010). Her best-selling titles include Naughty Fairy Tales from A to Z (Plume), Naked Erotica (Pretty Things Press), and Best Bondage Erotica (Cleis Press).

Ms. Tyler is loyal to coffee (black), lipstick (red), and tequila (straight). She has tattoos, but no piercings; a wicked tongue, but a quick smile; and bittersweet memories, but no regrets. She believes it won't rain if she doesn't bring an umbrella, prefers hot and dry to cold and wet, and loves to spout her favorite motto: You can sleep when you're dead. She chooses Led Zeppelin over the Beatles, the Cure over NIN, and the Stones over everyone. Yet although she appreciates good rock, she has a pitiful weakness for 80s hair bands.

In all things important, she remains faithful to her partner of 15 years, but she still can't choose just one perfume.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sexy, fun, full-length read from a short story master..., February 20, 2010

This review is from: With or Without You (Cheek) (Paperback)
Alison Tyler writes the "best" best friends-I want to be friends with these people! I've read more than one novel by her that I found myself straying towards wanting even more of the quirky, sexy best friend (and their companion) - in "With or Without You", it's Nora. I would read this book all over again, just for her alone. Eleanor is the more buttoned-up, conversative type who's just split with her ass of a boyfriend. Her best friend, Nora, is vivacious, inventive, adventurous and just the person to get Eleanor back in the game.

A sexy cover, a throwback to U2 that had me humming the song the entire time, this was a quick, fun read and if you're already an Alison Tyler fan, it's nice to be able to see her stretch into a full novel. Tiffany Twisted (Cheek), Melt With You (Cheek), and Sweet Thing (Cheek) are others I would definitely recommend.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Eleanor is a conservative girl working in a museum. She is shy around men. She and her boyfriend of four years just broke up. She stays with her wild best friend Nora who has sex with different men almost every day. Nora owns some nightclubs. Much of the story is about Nora's wild living. Eleanor finds some ancient writings in Greek. She takes them to Anthony to translate. The writings happen to be pornographic diary writings, with a lot of bondage and spanking. Anthony and Eleanor end up together and have the same kind of sexual relationship as that described in the writings.

I was annoyed with Eleanor's actions. She wanted a relationship with Anthony, but every time he would initiate something, she would become mute and leave. She could talk to Anthony about anything other than the two of them. The way she would freeze up was not normal. The rest of the story consisted of little bits of this and that. Nothing drew me into the story, not the events nor the characters. Even the sex scenes were not well done. In addition, there was not much romance. I suggest skipping this book. I enjoyed this author's other book Tiffany Twisted, for which I did a customer review on 1-10-08.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: more than twenty-two. Setting: current day Los Angeles, California. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.
