Book Description

July 14, 2009

Poised for an interview, TV reporter Hallie Berglund walks into a murder scene instead. The victim's boyfriend stands over the body, murder weapon in hand. Hallie couldn't stop the crime, but as the star witness, she'll see the man brought to justice...right? Not according to her colleague Brody Jordan, who is convinced the police--and Hallie--are targeting the wrong man. To prove it, he'll need Hallie's help. The victim was wearing a bracelet handcrafted by Hallie's long-dead mother. Now Hallie is the only one who can unearth the secrets of the past--and bring the sinister truth to light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where Mystery and Romance Meet, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Witness to Murder (Murder Mystery Series #2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #155) (Mass Market Paperback)
Up and coming news reporter, Hallie Berglund, arrives for a much anticipated interview certain to boost her ratings, but stumbles into a murder scene. The victim's boyfriend is also on the scene and holds the murder weapon in his hands. Hallie's testimony is paramount to Damon's conviction. Everything points to his guilt. How could he be innocent?

Co-worker Brody Jordon, believes in Damon's innocence in spite of the circumstantial evidence pointing to his guilt. Hallie believes Brody is resistant to see the truth, because Damon is a sport hero, one Brody admires.
When Hallie discovers the victim's bracelet was handcrafted by her long-dead mother, Hallie begins to search for another truth, the secrets to her past. The answers to both mysteries rest in a deeper investigation to what Hallie believes she has witnessed. Hallie learns that things are not always as they appear. That may include Brody Jordon, too.

Jill Nelson has woven together as intriguing a story as it is entertaining. A definite page turner, it is well worth the read for both the lover of mystery and those who enjoy a good love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witness to Murder, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Witness to Murder (Murder Mystery Series #2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #155) (Mass Market Paperback)
Hallie Berglund is a news reporter who arrives at the home of a fashion model to conduct an interview only to find the model has just been murdered and the victim's boyfriend is standing over her with the murder weapon in his hand. Adding to the mystery, Hallie notices that the victim is wearing a bracelet made by Hallie's mom who died years ago. Hallie is convinced that the victim's boyfriend, Damon is the murderer, but her colleague Brody is certain Damon is innocent. Hallie and Brody form an unlikely team to find the answers to this mystery, and the sparks begin to fly.

Reading Witness to Murder by Jill Elizabeth Nelson reminded me of watching the TV show 24. Each chapter ended with a cliffhanger that kept me turning page after page until late into the night. Jill Elizabeth Nelson is very good at writing an interesting and suspenseful story with just enough twists, turns and mystery (and some romance!). This book will grab you on the very first page and keep you hanging on. I really enjoy a good mystery and Witness to Murder fits in that category. I will look forward to more mysteries from Ms. Nelson. If you are looking for some good suspense, read this book, you will love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Frank Review of Witness to Murder, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Witness to Murder (Murder Mystery Series #2) (Steeple Hill Love Inspired Suspense #155) (Mass Market Paperback)

When Minnesota newspaper reporter Hallie Berglund arrives to interview a female university student and model, she finds the front door ajar. Just inside, amidst signs of struggle, a man stands over the woman's still body, a length of cord in one hand. This is how Witness to Murder opens, and if you like your conflict flowing, Jill Elizabeth Nelson keeps the tap open throughout this Steeple Hill, 2009 novel.

The problem with Hallie believing her eyes is newspaper colleague Brody Jordan, who believes the man is innocent. Begrudgingly the duo sets off on a search for truth, puzzling a string of ciphers, and get more than expect along the way. Their relationship grows beyond that of colleagues and one crime scene clue adds real mystery to this murder case; the victim wore a bracelet made long ago by Hallie's African mother.

Jill Elizabeth Nelson well uses this little bracelet to keep pages turning as Hallie learns more about herself and the crime. While Hallie and Brody grow close, readers also ask questions about themselves. The real question that needs to be answered is, can one who is a Witness to Murder believe their eyes--or their heart.
