These guys are a great new band from Charlottesville, VA. If you like bands like Daughtry, Submersed, Alter Bridge, Tool, Dark New Day, Sevendust, you should like Under the Flood. Lots of great guitar work.

These guys are a great new band from Charlottesville, VA. If you like bands like Daughtry, Submersed, Alter Bridge, Tool, Dark New Day, Sevendust, you should like Under the Flood. Lots of great guitar work.

This album was produced independently last year and has now been released nationally by their new label. It was produced by Brian Craddock before he joined Daughtry (replacing Jeremy Brady on rhythm guitar). When I first listened to it, I was amazed at the production quality... I didn't expect an essentially "self-published" first CD to be so polished.

As someone who tends to listen to "lighter" stuff (at least compared to my brother's music library), this is surprisingly a CD I never get tired of listening to. When listening to a "new-to-me" band's album for the first time, I typically feel like everything on the CD sounds like the same song... not so with this album. My favorite songs are probably "The Witness", "Remedy", "Blown Away" and "Signs", but I really like everything. The only track I might skip on occasion is "Endless"... Dave's vocals are a little stretched here, and it's more of a quiet ballad (mostly piano and vocals) that on repeatedly listenings gets a bit tired. Nevertheless, I applaud them for doing something different on the album to keep things interesting.

The band is touring the US this summer with several other bands. [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Played to Death! ^_^ Always Sounds New.., August 18, 2008
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
I am... amazed.
"Remedy" (#4) "Halos" (#6) are my favorites from this, but it's undoubtedly a CD you can play all the way through, that doesn't lose you after song 5.
It isn't poppy, workout music.
But it has a deep, powerful, echoey sound of its own..
And it's not evil!! ^_^

Quite the opposite. :)

INDESCRIBABLE vocals, UNBELIEVABLE lyrics, and the music.. woah. ^_^
If you're looking for something that isn't shallow or played out by mainstream radio, then here is your winner. :))

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mixture Of Melodies, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
I picked this album up at Best Buy when I was on one of my OCD spending rampages. Havnt no idea who the band was, their cd caught my eye. I began examining the cd and said, $^#% why not? So I bought it. And let me tell you, I dont regret it. Listening to this whole album in one sitting, ive noticed a lot of different tones. The singers voice is astonishing. To give you a glimpse of how the band sounds like without listening to the album - its a mixture of: 10 years, Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Signs Of Betrayal (unsigned band, go check them out on myspace). Yes I know the Tool singer is in A Perfect Circle, but they arnt the same. They both have their styles. Throughout the album this band shows their different styles that suite those bands. Dont get me wrong, they have their own style; but its a similar tone. Ive been playing the 1st song (In Vain) over and over, I cant stop listening to it. Im excited to see another album come out by this band, id pick it up. Buy this album, im not kidding. DO IT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Witness" is a good start, December 23, 2009

Many people probably have not read my other reviews on here. This being the case, I'll give you a bit of background information. I like to abase mainstream bands because MOST (like 99 %) of them suck. I hate Nickelback and all their spin offs, I hate the "emo" scene... It's all commercialized garbage. It's the "fast food" of the music industry. Hopefully some of you will agree with me.

Now, who has ever heard of "Under The Flood" before finding them on Amazon? Probably just about nobody. And yet, here is a band who has talent and "gets" it. Their genre of music falls into the alternative metal subcategory. If you like Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, Mudvayne, 36 Crazyfists, and so forth; you will appreciate this band and their album "The Witness."

The song writing is very solid, both musically and conceptually. Their music is actually about something!! It's good. This is what music is supposed to be. Let this prove that I am not some biased music enthusiast. I can appreciate music across an array of genres, even if I don't particularly like the genre. What is important is that it is well done, creative, and has something to say. After the final track has concluded, it leaves the listener saying, "Man, that really got me." Not simply because it is a catchy album... but because it gave the listener something to relate to. Something of substance. "Under The Flood" should be featured on tours with Breaking Benjamin, instead of f*&#$%! Nicka'back!!!

I highly recommend this album, so check it out. This band deserves to be noticed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar gets you moving and lots of emotion, July 28, 2009
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
Great guitar riffs and emotion in the lyrics. These guys remind me of a Dark New Day or roughly an Evans Blue. I've listened to this album through probably 100 times in a row and it still hasn't gotten old. Only complaint...the nineth track!

The vocals are mostly slow and mellow, but the guitars keep a harder pace to keep the album rocking along. With the exception of one very-slow-super-mellow pop song, the rest are enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars High-Quality Audio, April 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
This is indeed a very well-produced album. I have heard many cds of bands where the music was really good but production was lacking. This is a combination of a super-talented band and good production. The vocals are outstanding, the guitars are crunching and buzzing and the composition gets thumbs up. The bass playing is also outstanding. It seems that several times during various songs, the bass guitar seems to explode like a bomb. They remind me of the Australian band, Rincon and their album, Evolution. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blows your mind- It's that good., January 26, 2009
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
By far one of the best CD purchases I've made in a long time. Don't let the price of this CD intimidate you. It's worth every penny. Twice that amount. If you like well put together music with heartstopping lyrics that are very visual and guitar rifts that blow your mind, you've found your ultimate CD.

I stumbled across UTF on my Yahoo radio station in early 2007. (#1) In Vain was played non-stop and it was very catchy. I found myself singing the main chorus even when other songs played. Much to my dismay I looked everywhere for the CD before I looked up UTF on Myspace and ordered a copy directly from them. The CD is played NONSTOP in my car. The Bottom (#10) is my favorite song on The Witness. I also love In Vain (#1), The Witness (#2), Remedy (#4).

If you like Digital Summer, Signs of Betrayal, Desperate for Compromise, the now defunct-Evans Blue, 10 Years, Red... for the lyrics and sheer quality of sound, then Under the Flood is the band for you. And even if you don't (or don't have a clue who those bands are) pick up The Witness! Right now!

4.0 out of 5 stars sounds like i've heard this before, August 2, 2008
This review is from: Witness (Audio CD)
when i first heard this band i was sure that the singer was from a band about 6 years ago that i'd heard. that band is Epidemic, check them out and see what you think(its not him, by the way). Overall, this band (and Epidemic for that matter) are good, but not great.
