This is a fine chinrest that is especially helpful to those that are allergic to the metals used in most chinrests.

I had a student that was hopelessly sensitive to metals near the neck region. It doesn't matter if it was nickel platted or chrome plated as massive rashes will break out. So I offered to get this for my student and install it. Quite a simple and inexpensive way to solve a rather disastrous problem for a yearning student.

I have to say that the installation cannot be simpler. It does not have the usual vertical screw mechanism that requires a clamp wrench like traditional chinrests. It instead uses a set of Phillips screws at the bottom of the apparatus. This really makes installation a breeze. Not only that, the cushion for the chinrest are integrated! One does not need to hold the chinrest with the cushion at the same time. Installation took much less than 5 minutes.

Of course, durability cannot be compared with the traditional chinrest design. This type of chinrest has multiple joints and even more parts, while the fastening system for the traditional chinrest only has two hinges on each side and a total of four moving parts. This mechanism does have a rattle before the screws are fastened, and the fact that everything is plastic doesn't comfort me.

The design can definitely be improved as far as durability is concerned. However, I cannot be happier as it did save the learning career of an allergic student at a price no more than the cost of a traditional chinrest.

The Good:
- hypoallergenic
- the mounting system is easy to use
- price is on par with the traditional chinrest

The Bad:
- the mounting system is a bit heavy on plastic

The Mediocre:
- none

This chinrest is the best I have ever tried. It is so comfortable! Albeit it is plastic, it is a very high quality material, and it includes the screwdriver, very useful for violinists who, like me, are away from home and don't have one in hand.

The light weight makes playing feel much more effortless. The curvature of the rest is perfect in that enables me to hold the instrument a variety of ways in that I tend to move it around a bit while I play when shifting positions. Also, for some reason, it really alleviates the notorious rose patch skin irritation that many of us get. I don't know if it's the shape or the hyper allergenic material or what, but it's working for me. My skin is never irritated with this chinrest!

We bought this to replace a cover that went over the chin rest and my son likes it much better. He is allergic to the metal on most chin rests so he has to have something else or he gets a rash on his neck. He says this is much better than the cover we had before and would buy another if needed.

A extremely good Luther put one of these on to save weight.

I immediately took it off because the thought of "Plastic" felt like I cheapened my violin.

A year later I got a new shoulder rest (BonMusica) and things moved around a bit.

So I tried it again. It fit like a glove and I really appreciate and respect the recommendation the Luther had to keep weight down as much as possible. This saves a tone of weight.

It also fits the violin very nicely. Some chin rests just never sit well or you need to file them to fit right. This one just fits great with a long thing stripe of cork.

This with Wittner Composite Tailpiece really cuts down weight.

Really like these chin rests. I have a daughter who is hypersensitive to metal. We have used one for years! Once we finally figured out her sensitivity, and got her switched, she quite complaining. We did have a problem when we ordered this the first time, neglected to see that we needed a side positioned chin rest, but ordered a center positioned chin rest. Called and easily made the switch with the company. No problems whatsoever. Great product and fills a need!

It's a very comfortable chin-rest for me. I think that this is the best chin-rest, at least for me. I tried two other one's first. With this one I can hold the violin without any hands and without even thinking about it.

This is a great chin rest and has helped with my tendonitis. I recommend it for all of my students. I play the violin professionally and have tried almost every chin rest - this is by far a superior item.
