This is a collection of letters & reports on the women behind the founding fathers. It gives a unique & tender perspective on what was going on "at home" while the Declaration of Independence was being written. I get a better understanding of what life was like in that time period, of the sacrifices these families made, of the fortitude it took to grow a nation. Fascinating!

Describes the hardships and struggles experienced by the wives of those who signed the Declaration of Independence. A very enlightening read; something that should be a part of every high school American history class!

Just because their names were not on the official documents that organized our country doesn't mean that women did not take a part. I think they have often been overlooked by history, but this book brings to light their sacrifices and challenges in support of our great nation. It is a good example for todays women, that there is honor in standing for what is right and raising strong successful families. Too often todays women need their name displayed in shining lights to prove to themselves that they've done something great. The women behind our Founding Fathers took pride and pleasure in the success of their families and the changes taking place in America because of their silent but profound sacrifices on our behalf. Inspiring!

I loved the book. I didn't know much about the signers or their wives, so this book was very enlightening. It brings to mind and heart why we are a great nation. I do believe these men and women are the true patriots of our land. May we never forget what they did for our freedoms. I couldn't put the book down and will have to read it again. I recommend it highly.

Excellent history book about a little-discussed topic. There is usually a great woman behind a great man. I love David Barton's interviews on Fox (Glenn Beck's Show) and I purchase all of his wonderful books.

I read some of the chapters only to realize that the book dealt very little with the wives. I would not recommend this book if you want to know about the wives.

I love books. It just takes me forever to get through them. This is a good one. With essays on each one of the founding father's romances (wives) it pulls no punches in the shortcomings of the men these women supported during one of the most difficult times to be alive-giving birth to America. The fact that these women faced the danger and lack of creature comforts that they could have retired to, is a testament to what it took to create a 'land of the free.' It's an easy read as well. This is a keeper for your library to go back over and as a handy reference. Don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to do some extra research on some of these ladies. Reading this is time well spent!
