This game is ideal because it's simple to learn, quick to play, and very entertaining. Even my father, who really doesn't enjoy cards or board games at all, can easily be persuaded to join us for a round of Wizard. We've found that 4-5 people playing this game makes for the best setup because there are more chances for missed bids (and thus an added drama factor!) and the game doesn't last too long. You'll be surprised at how attached you can become to a card game--whether you miss your bid or trump everyone else, you're likely to become emotionally involved, and that makes this game an intense but fun way to spend an afternoon or evening. Five stars for sure on this product!

Our Favorite Family Game!,

We were introduced to this game about 2 years ago by a distant relative and have since hooked most of our immediate family. We play everytime we get together. At first it may be a little discouraging because you have to make your exact bid or you lose points, but once you get the hang of it the bidding becomes easier. My older kids (10 & 8) love it, but I would recommend it more for older kids and adults. There is also a website wizardcards.com you can register and play for free. Very fun, but I would get the cards first and learn how to play before going online.

Every year for Christmas I try to find a good family game. This is 2008's great game. We love that any number from 3 to 6 can play. There is a lot of strategy and changing course in the middle of the game as you try to take the exact number of tricks bid before the play starts. Two quick tips: The score sheet is a little small as we found it easiest to put the hand score/total score into the little square. Also, write down the side of the score sheet either who is dealing (we use deals) or who leads for each hand. It is important to know who is leading the round. The first game we played (3 people) took about 1-1/4 hours. Each subsequent game was quicker, even though we had up to 6 people. I would say the game would be better with 12/13 years old and up, but a precocious 10 year old would be ok.
Follow up 3 January 2009 -- I forgot one tip. We gave pennies to each person based on what they bid. That way, each person could remember what they bid and everyone could see everyone else's bid.

This is a fun game that is great to play with 2 to 6 people. It's not difficult but it is challenging enough to keep you interested. We had a gas when we played with friends.

Wizard is one of the greatest card games created and kids and adults of all ages can play. It is great for family and friend reunions or just a fun family night together. Everyone who has learned how to play the game is hooked. It has provided hours of fun and cries of disbelief in our family.

Each year, my family searches out games to play at Christmas. This is my pick for this year. Friends introduced me to this game of trump, with surprising twists and turns, a few weeks ago--- and I was hooked! I only wish I would have purchased a few more to have on hand for stocking stuffers!

This is an easy-to-learn & fun-to-play card game! My husband & I were introduced to Wizard by some friends & liked it so much that we bought a pack for ourselves & one to give as a gift. There's just enough of a mix of strategy & luck involved to make all players feel like they have a chance of winning.

We are a large extended family who enjoy games this one was a big hit this Christmas. It is a good combo of many other games it keeps you on your toes all the time the lead can change in just one hand. Not a game for the timid player.

Great game - cards get sticky,

This is a great card game. Everyone we have introduced to this game loves it. The Jester and Wizard cards add some fun twists to the outcome, and if you fall behind initially, you can still catch-up as the number of cards per hand increase at the end.
My only complaint, and the reason I only give it 4 stars, is that the cards tend to get sticky with extended use, and given you can shuffle the deck 15 to 20 times per game, the cards get a lot of handling. A plastic card surface would have been better. The best solution I have found is to purchase more than one set. I am sure the manufacturer, with whom I am not affiliated, loves me for saying that. By the way, my family sometimes shortens the game time by choosing a subset of the total hands used to play a game. So for 4 players, instead of dealing hands with 1 to 15 cards, we will play hands of, say, 2, 4, 7, 9, 10, 13, and 15 cards. |
