5.0 out of 5 stars A rich jewel of a series
A rich jewel of a series: original, imaginative, and wonderfully crafted.

If, like me, your tastes in reading lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy, don't be deterred by the title of this terrific series, which begins when a young Idaho boy stumbles upon a hidden cave. Chasing his errant cat, he soon finds that the cave is a gateway to another world, Kimyra, where...

3.0 out of 5 stars Overrated
I have no earthly idea why all three books in this series are rated as five stars. After being deceived by that I bought and read this book. It was OK, a bit amateurish, and rather derivative, with very few moments of originality. Granted, I am an adult, but there is much better juvenile sci-fi/ fantasy out there, like Cofler's Artemis Fowl series or Pratchett's...

A rich jewel of a series: original, imaginative, and wonderfully crafted.

If, like me, your tastes in reading lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy, don't be deterred by the title of this terrific series, which begins when a young Idaho boy stumbles upon a hidden cave. Chasing his errant cat, he soon finds that the cave is a gateway to another world, Kimyra, where talking(!) cats are joined by such strange creatures as ribeks, wallacatoons, trolls, and gryphons in a battle between good and evil `wizards.'

For the Kimyrans, everything is explainable as `magic,' but thirteen year old Gerrald, a.k.a., `Jarrett' in Kimyran, is a bit of a skeptic, less amenable to accepting explanations involving the supernatural when nature is known to have more tricks up its sleeve than an army of wizards could conjure up in a lifetime of trying. But to get back to Earth, Gerrald will need all the `magic' he can muster to steal two jewel eyes that were stolen from a stone dragon by the evil wizard Mantigore.

Together, Wizard Chase, Wizard Girl, and Wizard's End make up one heck of a good tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wizard Chase, June 12, 2000
WIZARD CHASE is so marvelously written that it seemed to stretch fantasy into truth. It's a novel that pulls you in with it's power, so that once you start to read, you cannot put it down. It leaves the reader spellbound and hungry for the next adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wizard chase, June 13, 2000

As an adult I am usually bored by "children's books" but always preview read what looks interesting for my kids. This was a great book, full of life lessons and interesting characters. Sometimes I thought the author got a little too hung up on Steven King like descriptions of the icky critters, but his work was wonderful in describing the relationships among the "people" in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to pick up, hard to put down!, July 14, 2000
Until he was 13, Gerrald did not know there was a place called Kimyra. He had not met a walacatoon, a scraler or even a ribek. Then one day he went after a cat in a cave and his life changed forever. The skinny kid was suddenly the leader of alien trekkers on a quest to steal the eyes of a dragon. Gerrald would soon discover there was something more powerful than magic, myth or mysticism -- and only he knew its name! Wizard Chase is the first exciting volume in a new fantasy trilogy that will prove totally engaging for young readers and one of these infrequent books that are so easy to pick up and so hard to put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, June 12, 2000
This book was very enjoyable! You can relate to Gerrald's typical school problems, and I love cats! If you like books with fantasy, magic, and mystery, with a touch of reality, this is the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars WIZARD CHASE!, February 10, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wizard Chase (The Wizards Trilogy, 1) (Paperback)
i really enjoyed this book. it was very magical and exciting! i could just imagine myself going through the same troubles that gerald/jarret went through. such as battling the scralers to save skitter. i also wanted to get answers to the questions that gerald/jarret was asking. the strange animals were described so well, i could picture it inside my head. the ending was so unpredictable, it made the whole book turn around!i definetly want to read the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wizard Chase A Hit!, June 20, 2000
Wizard Chase is a delightful surprise. I preread books before I let my kids at them, usually I just skim through them. But this one I took my time with and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a little bit of Gerrald in all of us and Kids especially connect with him, mine sure did. The story line captivates you, the characters intrigue and the locations enthrall, what else could you, or any child ask for. A Great Read and well deserved of my 5 Stars.
