Book Description

September 1993
Inspired by the whimsical movie, "The 'Wizard of Oz' Cookbook" begins with a brief stop in Kansas for some of Aunt Em's heartland fare and then soars over the rainbow to the fantasy-food in the land of Oz. These easy-to-follow recipes (each with a maximum of ten ingredients and short preparation time), are sprinkled with amusing trivia from the movie. The book is intended to be useful as a party planner. Following the inspiration of the original film, each chapter is organized around a theme - a dinner party in Kansas, a kids' party in Munchkinland, a cocktail party at the Witch's castle, a dessert party in Emerald City, and so on. Along the yellow brick road, we find such treats as Emerald Castle Cake, Wicked Witch's Brew, Kansas Crullers, Munchkinland Lollipops and Yellow Brickle brownies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Much Cookin' Here, May 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wizard of Oz Cookbook: Breakfast in Kansas, Dessert in Oz (Hardcover)
This is a cute little thing, but if you really want an extraordinary Wizard of Oz cookbook, you'd be better off finding 'Cooking in Oz' by Elaine Willingham and Steve Cox. Loads of pictures and celebrity recipes, info on L. Frank Baum, trivia and great stuff for all of us who love Oz and Baum.

A neat little cookbook sure to please those who like to collect cookbooks or Oz. Easy to follow recipes named appropriately with the film in mind are studded with excepts from the film.

3.0 out of 5 stars fun cookbook, September 15, 2011
This review is from: The Wizard of Oz Cookbook: Breakfast in Kansas, Dessert in Oz (Hardcover)
It's always hard to buy books online when you can't thumb through the pages first. The recipes were not as theme oriented as I had hoped, but they are good recipes. They really don't have anything more to do with the Wizard of Oz than cute names. Cake is still cake even if you name it Munchkin Cake. I was hoping for recipes that either looked like the characters or had ingredients more closely tied to them. But the 2 things I made (Cornfield Crunch, and Flying Monkeys) were very good.
