Great for young readers,

I took this book out from my local library to read my four-year-old daughter, and I've found it to be perfect for bedtime stories. Every page has large text on one side and a black-and-white sketch on the other side, and the the chapters each take about 5 minutes to read. We read one chapter each evening, and expect the book to take about 2 weeks to read. The "deadly poppies" were a bit worrisome to her, as I had to explain about why the scarecrow and tin man were worried about leaving the lion asleep in the poppy field, since the book mentioned that they were worried that the lion might die, but such explanations are common fare for preschoolers. My daughter loves the book. Each morning when she wakes up, she reads from the beginning up to the chapter we left off, and can't wait to find out what happens next. I suspect that she's secretly begun reading ahead.
