My daughter's new favorite book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Wizard of Oz (Hardcover)
I checked this book out of the library for my 4 year old to see how she would like it. It is her new favorite book so we are getting our own copy. We read a couple of chapters a night and have finished our first read through. My daughter requested we start over and we are re-reading the book. I think this is a good fantasy story. I have seem some folks comment on some scenes being a bit violent. My daughter was more scared by some of the opening scenes in Tangled than she was by anything in this book. Additionally, I think it is great for children to be exposed to the language in these older books. It is wonderful for improving their vocabulary and comprehension.

Classic children's story,

I liked the reviewer's review earlier about the shoes and road representing the gold and silver standards and how right he was. But not only that, but the story itself is involving and engrossing from beginning to end. The characters are lovable and extremely well-developed for how short this story was. But besides critical viewpoints this story is a creative example of a thinking mind. Baum brought us a rowsing adventure about a young girl swept away by a tornado from her home in Kansas. Just a great story, that, just like Alice In Wonderland will be readable at any age.

THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN MISPLACED. IT IS INTENDED FOR THE EDITION OF "THE WIZARD OF OZ" ILLUSTRATED BY MICHAEL HAGUE. I received this book as a particularly thoughtful gift on my tenth birthday nearly twenty years ago, and it continues as one of my all-time favorites to this day. Michael Hague's charming, earthy, watercolor illustrations lend a bit of folksy magic to this classic tale that all but transport a person to Oz itself. I keep the book in my children's library, but my confession is that sometimes, on particularly drizzly days, I indulge myself in a satisfying re-enjoyment of this book, all by myself.

I borrowed this book from a library one time and I loved it! It was really fun to read and it was different from the movie in parts. They go to different lands like China Town where the whole land is made of China! I would highly recommend borrowing or even buying this book! All ages and genders would love it!

This book is really good! Talking animals, tin man, and scarecrows, and Dorothy team up in an adventure with a witch on their tails. And the end is very happy.

This book was first read to me at age 3. The book was so wonderful that it encouraged me to learn to read at an early age ao that I wouldn't have to stop reading when my parents stopped. This editions illustrations are wonderful and really fit the book well. This book definitely deserves a 5 star rating!

Someone who would like this is a person who likes fantasy and adventure. I would recomend this book to a middle school student or above. My opinion about this book is that I liked it, it kept me reading because of all the action. I also liked this book because it was easy to read. It was better than the movie, like when the Tin Man kept cutting off all the animals' heads. One thing I didn't like about this book is that it was different than the movie. When I was reading the book the movie came on T.V and I watch the movie and it cunfused me a little. If you haven't read the book yet, you should because it is a very good book and if you want to read the REAL story, read THE WIZARD of OZ.

I WAS A LITTLE SURPRISES TO SEE HOW GORY AND DETAILED THIS BOOK WAS. I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO TALK ABOUT DEATH AND OTHER THINGS. OTHER THAN THAT, I LOVED THE BOOK AND THOUGHT IT WENT ALONG WITH THE MOVIE FOR THE MOST PART.

The Movie Turned Out Better Than The Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wizard of Oz (Hardcover)
The book is too fantastic and unrealistic. It is hard to follow and it is difficult to imagine some of the things that the author writes about. For example, putting bran in the scarecrow's head and saying that he has "bran-new brains." I am glad that the screenwriters for the movie were able to preserve the basic story line and produce a much better product.
