Book Description

You asked for it, you got it!

The mysterious Wizard is back, and he's brought along his demons--literally. What's this about a nemesis and a gambling addiction? Can't an old man enjoy a cone of Ben & Jerry's and a nice nap at his favorite San Francisco B&B without a bunch of Chinatown zombies trying to get in on the action? And why are the sidewalks of The Castro suddenly so fabulous, anyway?

You don't have be an LGBTQutie-patootie to shake your booty. Just ask the Wizard, or anyone who's read his latest Wizard Tale.

Better yet, read it yourself!

By popular demand, The Wizard Takes a Fitness Class is also longer than the first wizard story--much longer. Cover art is once again by Nik Caesar, this time with color by John Hageman.

Editorial Reviews

Review

What an excellent, fun, fast and furious little story. Esoteric mixes with exploitation, quirky mixes with crazy. This story has it all: Wizards, warlocks, eleven herbs and spices, kung-fu zombies, transgendered yoga, demons, spirits, and vitamin-enriched post-workout drinks. Everything you'd want in a six-demon bag and MORE! Red Tash is an ace. Pick this up and swig it back. Tasty and refreshing. ~Axel Howerton, Coffin Hop co-founder

'The Wizard Takes A Fitness Class' is a funky, off-beat, quirky tale that I guarantee you aren't expecting! It's bizarre in the best possible way. The story is engaging and amusingly entertaining, and keeps you wondering what could possibly be next. Everyone should get a little physical and twist with this one! Take it out for a spin, and don't forget to bring along your own boom-box toting zombies, wizards, warlocks, voo-doo mamma's, herbalists, and demons! It's great fun with a bit of heart woven into the mix. ~Nina D'Arcangela, Sirens Call Publications

An incredibly fun read. I found the story to be quirky, bizarre (dancing zombies) and most of all, very funny. It's also got a few moments of genuine heart and some very clever ideas (the origins of the Russian language was genius). You might read it quickly, but it'll stay with you once you've finished, and you'll be eager for more. An excellent little story. ~Steve McHugh, Crimes Against Magic

From the Author

Fans of the Wizard have asked for more, and once again I am obliging you.  See the original Wizard Tale (The Wizard Takes a Holiday) for an introduction to the boy who will become The Wizard's new apprentice: Lucian.  If you previous downloaded The Wizard Takes a Holiday, go ahead and delete it and download it again.  You will be rewarded with three bonus stories altogether, and the price is the same: free.

Coming soon, The Wizard Tales part III, The Wizard Takes the Cake!  And even longer, more in-depth look into the past and the present of our mysterious wizard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wizard Takes Me On Another Adventure April 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you've read The Wizard Takes a Holiday (The Wizard Tales) or This Brilliant Darkness (A Dark Contemporary Fantasy) then you already know author Red Tash has an amazing ability to immediately transport you to another time and place. There is an ease about the way she paints pictures with words. You get a real sense of the character and their emotions without the story telling itself getting in the way. There are several examples of this in Fitness Class with one of my favorites being, "The staff that was once a young man's weapon, now reduced to an old man's walking stick. When the world spins and threatens to rock off its axis, I plant it like a flag in the territory of the Upright." Awesomeness.

I was personally waiting anxiously for another Wizard story after falling in love with the first one. Who was this Wizard? Where did he come from? Why did he need a vacation? These questions and several more kept running through my head each time I reread the Holiday. So naturally when Fitness Class came out I was ecstatic! And it was definitely worth the wait. I don't know if I've ever read a short story with so many laugh-out-loud moments. And the creativity displayed in the story telling is impressive. At a time when JK Rowling has defined Wizardom for the world, Red Tash makes it fresh again. Case in point is the reason why the Wizard takes a fitness class. Too clever!

The only bad thing about this short story is reaching the end. And wouldn't you know it, with every glimpse into the life of this Wizard readers are left wanting more. I know I was, which makes me recall something I heard many times as a kid... it's good to want things. For the first time in my life I feel like this may be true. I'll ponder that thought for a bit while I wait for the Wizard to go to Monte Carlo or perhaps Bora Bora. ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Homorous March 6, 2013

I am always amazed at how much impact a short story can have. Red Tash has a tremendous gift for delivering laughter.

"The Wizard Takes a Fitness Class" is just another hilarious rollercoaster ride. It's pretty short so I don't want to give anything away but I have to give you this: Zombies with boom boxes! While you think about yoga pants and sweat just imagine Gandalf the White in that scenario and you are half way to understanding this short.

There is definitely a creative mind at play here. This novella left me with some pretty wild imagery floating in my head that brightened my down cast mood with jovial humor.
