4.0 out of 5 stars Novel idea for an RPG, November 12, 2010

This review is from: Poor Wizard's Almanac & Book of Facts III (Dungeons & Dragons) (Paperback)
The Poor Wizard's Almanac was an entertaining and novel idea produced for AD&D's Mystara setting. To my knowledge, there were a total of four Almanacs (Almanacs I, II, and III, as well as Joshuan's Almanac). Each of the Almanacs covered a particular year, chronicling the major events that happened in the game world throughout the year. The books also include various notable individuals (rulers, generals, etc) and information on several nations. The Almanacs did an excellent job of making the game world seem "alive", as it detailed events that were happening even if the players weren't involved.

While AD&D 2nd Edition is long past (and Mystara, as well), the Almanacs are still excellent gaming aids, and have a great deal of information for inspiration or transplanting into a different campaign.
