The Guitar Wizard Re-visited,
By Alex Vaynberg (Portland, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wizard's Chosen Few (Audio CD)
Axel Rudi Pell is without a doubt one of the most underrated guitarists of our generation as well as being a very talented songwriter. His guitar work is both dark and pasionate with heavy Richie Blackmore and Michael Schenker influences. If you like 80's Metal with a German feel, you will love Axel's work. Great vocals from former Hardline front man Johny Giolli and electric drum work by Jorg Michael make for one tight sounding Metal Machine. I have every cd Axel has put out dating back to his days with Steeler and I am yet to be dissapointed.

Very Nice Introduction,

This review is from: Wizards Chosen Few (Audio CD)
This album was my introduction to Axel Rudi Pell, and I must say I'm quite impressed with his songwriting and guitar playing. He plays a kind of very melodic power metal. Anyone who likes high quality hard rock/metal that is of a more mature stately nature will be instantly hooked! I gave the album four stars simply because I think Pell's music is more album oriented and hard to compile. Pell differs from other guitarists like Yngwie Malmsteen in that his music is more song oriented and isn't quite the guitar showcase. He's more focused on solid songwriting, but this isn't a bad thing since he always plays well. Best songs on the CD I think are Casbah, Fool Fool, Eternal Prisoner, and Nasty Reputation. This disc also features some cool vocalists like Rob Rock, and Jeff Scott Soto who also sang on Yngwie Malmsteen's first two solo CD's. Also, I think Axel's albums have some of the best covers I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to hearing some more of his music, but he has so many solid albums it's hard to decide which album to get next. Regardless this album is a great introduction to his music.
