5.0 out of 5 stars completely wonderful adventure
Todays generation of gamers are exposed to WAY too many sword-slashing adventure/action games on the Playstation 2 and 3, along with the Xbox. It sickens me to see so many games that have the same exact gameplay.

Wizards and Warriors, however, was influential back in the days of the NES, and clearly stands above other games from the same time period...

3.0 out of 5 stars I want to give this game a 4, but too many fall shorts
Don't get me wrong I like the series and I do own this game, however this original suffers some pretty considerable flaws to later installments primary talking about Iron Sword and the gameboy title. Firstly this game offers unlimited continues, umm if I may ask why? Now I rated the second game a 5, but it has the same flaw is the second issue just not as confusing...

Todays generation of gamers are exposed to WAY too many sword-slashing adventure/action games on the Playstation 2 and 3, along with the Xbox. It sickens me to see so many games that have the same exact gameplay.

Wizards and Warriors, however, was influential back in the days of the NES, and clearly stands above other games from the same time period. That's because the play control, graphics, and music in the game are all exceptionally good. You won't have ANY trouble moving your character around the screen. The graphics are on the same level as Super Mario Bros. 3, and the music... well, let's just say, the music is so good that a rock band actually covered some of the themes. To me that's proof I'm not the only one who found the music interesting. Other people out there noticed the memorable music, too. Years later, I can still remember a few of the themes.

The game throws in a LOT of enemies for you to battle throughout each world you visit, but it's not like this makes the game difficult. You see, for some reason, the game offers you infinite continues, and you CAN'T DIE unless you simply refuse to hit the continue button. I will never know why they made the game this way.

It doesn't matter, though. Wizards and Warriors is one of the best and most original sword-swinging adventure games you can find for the NES. The fact that the levels you visit are actually giant worlds for you to walk around killing everything in sight, including jumping up high on platforms to find secret areas, makes this a truly wonderful game overall.

I almost completely forgot about this extremely unique game. It's hard, addictive and makes you crave more! I'm also puzzled by the fact that you have infinite continues. Probably because it's impossible to beat the game without them. Make no mistake, folks. If you have a thin line of patience when it comes to progress in games, you won't like this one. However, if you like a mental challenge (and I Do mean mental), this title is right up your alley. It kind of reminds me of Castlevania II; Simon's quest, in that the game has unique music and various forms of enemies ranging from fauna to insects, arachnids, mythical creatures (gargoyles, etc.), and the never resting undead. The only enemies in W&W that are invincible are the Guardians (Those guys that kind of look like your character, only they're red and really pissed off!), the Rock Pillar Beasts(They appear and disappear into the ground in the cavern areas), and the Skull Hives.

In my opinion, the hardest boss besides the main one was the Skeleton Changeling. It starts of REALLY small throwing bones and when the "evil" meter is depleted, it grows a little bigger and you have to start the process all over again (Up to four times!)

Overall it's an EXCELLENT game with an incredibly high replay value. It's great to have it back again!

Simply one of the best 8 bit games ever conceived.... Marvelous in nearly every way...

A joy to play 20 years ago, and now one of my most fond memories can be relived over and over by owning this gem of a game....

W and W is just pure joy....

find a copy today!

Also, see if you can download the soundtrack... the music in this (and part 2) is REALLY well done, and is surprisingly listenable on your ipod or zune....

5 stars, all the way!

This Game Is A Must for all oldschool Gamers Who are into platform Style action/adventures! i believe this Game Never gained the Hype Of earlier NES classics Such as Metroid/Mario To name a couple Only because It was Released At the end Of the NES 8 bit era. 1989 The sega genesis was The NEW & Next Big thing the 16 bit revolution, so The game was Not Much talked About. Wizards & warriors Is A Non Stop adventure With Many enemies to Destroy, lots of Power ups That will give you many things to help you go further Into this Beautiful world. The Best part i find is that it has RPG elements But Not at all an RPG! I dont Like much RPGS this is Not A Game thats an RPG it is a non stop action Adventure! Into different worlds. Wich are all different! Your Main weapon is a sword but After killing certain enemies And Finding Keys To open treasure chest you find Many Awesome weapons like throwing daggers That work like Boomerangs the Daggers Come right back Into your hand! & Keep Throwing em laying out enemies. The Game is SUPER FUN! This Game Blows away Metroid! for all you BIG NAME HYPE NES ONLY people! if you never tried this, All I can say it Is one of the best classics Ever! very addicting as well!

3.0 out of 5 stars I want to give this game a 4, but too many fall shorts, April 21, 2010

Don't get me wrong I like the series and I do own this game, however this original suffers some pretty considerable flaws to later installments primary talking about Iron Sword and the gameboy title. Firstly this game offers unlimited continues, umm if I may ask why? Now I rated the second game a 5, but it has the same flaw is the second issue just not as confusing honestly what is happening in the game half the time. I mean I climbed all the way up a tree fought tons of enemies and than I fight a boss obtain nothing and move to the next place? I mean why did I set out on my quest anyway, was my character just bored one saturday? The second game at least says you on a quest early in the game, which at least says that your character is seeking all 4 elements. Thirdly how do the gameplay mechanics work anyway, you keep track of money yet, however do you ever spend it or is it just for bragging rights. I mean the second game throws everything you need to know about the game in the first few minutes, you collect money that you can use at stores any door you see you can enter. You are out to get items that the animal gods seek in return for their assistance, there are also hidden areas and spells. This game doesn't really show that I mean their are doors you can't enter and their are illusions of you that can attack you and appear to hurt you after you fight them for a while (btw are they even killable?). Thats all I really care to go over about my issues with this game. Now to be fair this game does many things well however, one being platforming this is a plat former and not a bad one at that. The game involves lots of jumping and puzzle like movements which adds a lot to a pretty bland game otherwise. Also this game benefits from themed stages that just make sense and thank goodness they do, also they have ideas that many platform games didn't like characters that constantly fire at you from inside the terrain not on top or move in and out of the ground or terrain. Now I know this doesn't sound all that convincing, but this game is simple in it's styling and thats kind of what's wrong with it (and oddly what makes it great). All and all if you want your game simple and find this game cheap feel free to buy it, it goes for about 5-10 dollars most places. It may very well be worth a place however, if you see the sequel Iron Sword skip this and buy the second game. Trust me you didn't miss much, and if you really need more you will probably buy this game anyway. All and all this game is average, but would have been so much more with a few minor changes.
