As small and portable as a typical pen, it measures just 6.4 x 1.5 x 1-inches (WxHxD) and weighs three ounces without batteries. A directional keypad makes navigation easy, and the LCD has a resolution of 122 x 32 pixels so you can clearly see information. A smart shut-off feature automatically powers it down when it's not in use to preserve battery life.

Quicktionary 2 Premium Translates Words, Idioms, and Phrases--and Pronounces Them Too!
The Quicktionary 2 Premium is smart enough to translate not just individual words, but also phrases and idioms. It identifies inflected words and displays their corresponding entries. A built-in speaker can read the scanned English text aloud, and the scanner also features an earphone socket for private listening.
The Premium Chinese version of the Quicktionary 2 can recognize both English and Chinese Simplified text, letting you translate in both directions. A unique algorithm divides the Chinese Simplified strings into their corresponding word segments, giving you an accurate translation.
Scan and Store Text
In addition to translating, the Quicktionary 2 also functions as a dedicated text scanner allowing you to scan up to 500 pages of text at 400 DPI, store it on your pen, and transfer it to any Windows-based application on your PC, PDA, or Smartphone. Add More Languages to the Scanner
In addition to Chinese Simplified, which is built-in, you can add additional dictionaries to the Quicktionary 2 Premium. Just add or delete from over 25 language dictionaries included on a CD.
Available language dictionaries include: English-Arabic, English-Czech, English-Danish, English-Dutch, English-French, English-German, English-Japanese, English-Polish, English-Spanish, French-English, French-German, German-English, and more.
The Quicktionary 2 runs on two AAA batteries (included) and requires Windows NT/98/2000/XP/Vista, a CD-ROM drive, and a free USB port. It is backed by a one-year warranty.

This product is basically a failure for the following reasons:(1) Installation is very confusing. When it is done, nothing works. I had to manually change many settings to make it "work". (2) When it works, it is very sloooooooow, especially when you want to scan something directly into your PC. You may type faster than using this pen with much higher accuracy. (3) The instruction booklet does not match what one sees on the product. You get lost after following the instructions. (4) The driver coming with the package does not work with Vista 64 bit, but the correct driver is nowhere to fine, unless the company sends you a link. After I installed the "correct" driver, it still did not work well. (5) The company claims that it can scan Chinese characters into PC, but instead it only sent alien codes from outer space into my PC. I called the company, but was told they could not read Chinese; and therefore, they could not help!

I did not buy this scanner for the Chinese, but for translating French and Spanish into English, specifically the random words I didn't know when reading novels. (I bought this version, because it was cheaper). It was either this or one with a keyboard. For this purpose, it works really well. I was even surprised to see that there was plenty of room to add the other dictionaries without deleting the Chinese ones. It is the tool I wish existed when I was in college.I also tested its scanning capabilities in Word 2007, and it just worked, no tweaking. Be warned that the interface is kludgy and getting the initial setup right takes a little time (documentation is not great and there are very specific steps to follow), but once you figure it out, voila! What I wish it had: Ability to send translated words and definitions to the PC (it keeps 80 on the scanner) for review/memorization.
