Another smart, edgy offering from Cindy Alexander,
By
This review is from: Wobble with the World (Audio CD)
While it's not fair to paint Cindy Alexander with a broad, "Confessional Singer-Songwriter" brush, it provides a reasonable foundation to build this review upon. Cindy does fit (albeit loosely) within the genre, but she's much more than that. Her music is real and tactile. While her lyrics may provide some insights as to what makes her tick, the true power in Cindy's music is the ease with which she makes the listener question what makes them tick. With every record, Cindy finds a way (whether deliberate or accidental) to make me just a little uncomfortable. A passing moment of insecurity when I'm forced to look past the land of Pollyanna that I have grown so fond of living in.But in spite of all this, or perhaps because if it, I am drawn to Cindy's music. "Wobble with the World" is Cindy's most polished studio effort, with a big sound and quality production value. It has yet to replace some of her earlier works as my favorite Cindy CD, but given time I suspect it just might. Like comfort food, it sticks with you long after taking it in. Cindy Alexander is the real deal folks, and eventually the music-buying public is going to figure that out. In the mean time, do yourself a favor and discover her for yourself. She's one of music's best-kept secrets.

Sounds like a major label release,

But the best thing is that she's indie ~ because underlying the radio friendly tunes and obvious skill and craft of the musicianship, production and songwriting, is honesty. This girl is at the top of her game on cd #4. The collaboration of Cindy Alexander and her producers/songwriting partners Dave Darling and Paul Trudeau is obviously a labor of love and we are the lucky ones to receive their gifts in beautifully captured performances. Like all of her previous cd's, Cindy's quirky humor and wit are evident throughout, but also her ability to draw tears out of a rock (Simple Stupid Clear & Soldier Song). Bloom is an artistic masterpiece and Unbelievable and Kamikaze are sure fire hits. Normal, Evil Peter, So What, Hillhurst Ave. and This is What You Get will satisfy those of us long time Cindy fans who thrive on her feisty use of music and language to poke pins into human frailty, especially our own. I think even Howard Jones might agree with me that her cover does the wonderful tune even more justice than the original. All that being said, the cd hasn't left my player.

LA Songstress Impresses With Fourth Release,
By
This review is from: Wobble with the World (Audio CD)
Cindy Alexander, one of LA's new generation of songwriters, demonstrates her talents with Wobble With The World. The fourth full release from this artist moves into new territory producing a musical adventure with surprises at every turn. Normal is an edgy atmospheric song, which would work well on a Quentin Tarantino sound track. Where as Hillhurst Avenue is an angste don't mess with me little song, its good anyway! She finishes off with The Soldier Song. This should strike a chord with a lot of people at the moment sadly. Think it will help though.

Cindy Alexander is a consumate singer-songwriter and artist who deserves much wider recognition for the music she puts out. This, her fourth CD, is no exception. The songs and melodies are easy to get into and like yet the lyrics remain smart and oftentimes wry. Her voice is in fine form here as always. For me this one comes in slightly behind "Smash" and "Angels and Demons" but it is still on of my favorite CD's

I have all of her albums and am a big fan. I adored the last record but this one holds a little something new for me! Its kind of edgier, always intelligent, and just a little different from Smash & the previous recordings. There are about 4-5 songs I can't stop playing over and over again. Take a taste - you won't regret it! In the sea of less than exciting pop music, this artist throws pop, rock, a little alt, the tiniest hint of country, and a splash of folk into a blender and you get the ulimate cocktail! Love it!

Really well written and superbly sung,

I'm not music aficionado or critic but I love this CD the best. I love individual songs (almost all of them) from her previous albums, but I like all the songs on this one. The sentiment behind the songs is poignant and the singing excellent. If you like Indie artists, if you like female singers/songwriters, if you just appreciate good music from someone with the guts to do it "her way"...buy this album! |
