I recently heard Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester on a local (Philadelphia) radio station and my wife and I were so enamored with this music that we had to order everything of theirs we could find. This album Wochenend und Sonnenschein was one of three in the first package that arrived today. (I have four more discs which will ship later.) I have to say that "You're the Cream in My Coffee" and "Night and Day" themselves are worth the price of the album! But the rest is equally good. There's not a bad track in the bunch! My wife and I have already listened to all three of our albums. Don't let the German titles shown here "throw" you. The music and the performances are just great, great, as are the vocals some of which are in English, some in German, and ALL are enjoyable. I do not understand German but so what? Raabe is the singer on the tracks that feature a vocalist and he writes some of the music as well. He is quite a talent! If you have friends who like cabaret music, dance music, or theater orchestras and you invite them over for an evening, you could not find anything better to play than this album (and the rest of Max Raabe's recordings as well). They'll love it as will you. I recommend this and the other Max Raabe albums wholeheartedly. Sound quality is first-class as well.

Excellent orchestra, excellent singer, the songs so nice!! Even though I don't speak German I enjoy them very much. I also have a DVD with the same group and I think it would be wonderful to haver another one soon.

I thoughlly enjoyed this album. Max Raabe and his orchestra lovingly recreates the musical arrangements and songs of the 1920's and 1930's with integrity and respect and with just the right touch of 21st Century camp/decadence. It is amazing to me that this young group of musicans has chosen these bygone eras to evoke their contemporary talents and skills. Wonderful! Wonderful!

It's everything it sets out to be, tongue in cheek almost a cabaret review of old standards and musical favorites. The fun part is so many of the songs are sung in German. That really adds something different to it all. The musicianship is impecable.

Happy Days...,

This CD is typical of the Palast Orchester output. Most of the songs are in German with the exceptions of American songs, which are -- of course --sung in English. It would have been nice if this album were a DVD, so one could savor the visual elements as well. The title song is sung to the tune of "Happy Days are Here Again". Happy indeed! Worth the money for lovers of this genre.
