5.0 out of 5 stars Wok Assistant
If you own a carbon steel wok, you may as well add this spatula to your cooking tools. It works much better than a long handled metal spoon and is certainly safer than using a standard stainless spatula. Instead of stirring the food around the pan, the spatula helps to toss the food around and get it up on the sides of the wok. It also allows you to scoop out more food...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wooden handle falls out
While the metal part of this spatula is fine, the wooden part does not stay in. I find that I have to bang the wooden handle in every time I cook with this tool. That is a hassle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wok Assistant, October 3, 2005
This review is from: 16" Wok Chuan (spatula)
If you own a carbon steel wok, you may as well add this spatula to your cooking tools. It works much better than a long handled metal spoon and is certainly safer than using a standard stainless spatula. Instead of stirring the food around the pan, the spatula helps to toss the food around and get it up on the sides of the wok. It also allows you to scoop out more food than a spoon or regular spatula. I considered purchasing another wok spatula but the handle had an angle that made it appear to be better suited for scooping and flipping burgers on the grill rather than stir frying. Speaking of handles, the one on this spatula may work itself loose after a few uses. If this happens, you will need to bang it against a hard surface to reposition it. I originally gave this 5 stars because I hadn't experienced the handle coming off. I still think it works pretty good but would rather give it 3 stars.

I love this thing. Makes me feel like I work in a chinese restaurant! The curve at the tip fits the wok perfectly and makes it easy to stir fry with. The wood handle comes unattached and you have to press it into the metal handle when you get it, but so far it is holding up well.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Well Designed!, November 3, 2008
This review is from: 16" Wok Chuan (spatula)
This chuan could not match the curvature of the fine wok any better(I got
both from the Wok Shop, which I also highly recommend). One caution: pound
the wood handle into the metal portion of the handle quite vigorously or you may have it detach. After my first use I didn't have a problem.

Bought the spatula and ladle for my 16" wok, the wooden handle is an easy fix, first I put the end of the spatula/ladle into boiling water, the intense heat made it expand a little so the wood handle can be inserted as far as possible, then immediately run it under cold water so the metal part has a tight grip on the wooden handle afterward. these spatula/ladle are great for money but i prefer the one made of wood/bamboo to prevent scrapping off the patina/seasoning of my wok.

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE quality... Bought two of them, lost BOTH handles in a few days, October 14, 2011
This review is from: 16" Wok Chuan (spatula)
I happened to end up with two identical spatulas (got one from this site and another from my local Chinese Wok shop @Chinatown San Francisco). BOTH spatulas lost their handles in a few days.

I would have been far better off with good American/German/Japanese kitchenware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chintzy...Poor Quality, September 19, 2011
This review is from: 16" Wok Chuan (spatula)
Chalk-up another review for "the wooden handle falls out," when handling the item. Mine did this straight out of the box; (and) the handle had a small crack in it as well. The wooden handle piece is ONLY attached to the hollowed-out metal shaft by way of glue... I'll have to use my own sealant to make this tool usable. Am guessing it'll be fine a single-season's worth cooking in the backyard. Hey, a spatula is a spatula is a spatula...but everyone wants a decent item for the money. Find another one. This version is a rip-off.

This chuan is awesome for my wok. The wooden handle has a tendency to come loose but can be easily fixed with a little crimping.

Seems quite sturdy and like it will last. The wood handle was not attached when I received it, but no worries there--I banged it on and it's not going to move again anytime soon.

Two complaints, which is why I'm giving this four rather than five stars:

1) I suspect that this was designed for professional use. 16" is, as it turns out, a bit too much spatula for my needs as a home cook. I find that my arm quickly tires when using it for a while, as compared to using the much shorter ladle that I previously used with my wok.

2) The bottom edge is a bit rough and scratches up the wok. Not big deep scratches, so nothing I'm too concerned about, but a bit more of a taper would have been appreciated.

4.0 out of 5 stars purchase comments, August 17, 2011

the comments regarding the description of the spatula were accurate.
the spatula's were received within the promised delivery time frame and were well- pacakaged.
other reviews concerning the product noted that the wooden handle ends were not attached.
i would concur and recommend that it should be a simple matter to correct this small discrepancy.
