The BEST cleaner for woks...!,
By
This review is from: 7" Cleaning Whisk
The best cleaner for both Chinese cast iron and for carbon steel woks. Removes stuck on food residue very gently, while still preserving a thin layer of seasoning or patina. The best for all woks, but particularly newer woks that aren't deeply seasoned yet. When you have lived with woks and seasoning them, you will come to love this tool. I love if for my cast iron skillets too--it really gets the food residue off these metals while still preserving the seasoning. Never have found anything as good at this as these bamboo brushes...!

I used to use this kind of bamboo brush in China. But this one was way too hard. It felt like a stick rather than a brush. I did not like it.

I ordered several of the 7" cleaning whisk and was sent only one and the others were the larger 10". The larger size is too big to handle for what I needed. The other problem with these whisks is they don't hold up for very long. They are fairly inexpensive though so it's not that big of a deal. I use these to clean out my cast iron skillets and they work great for that because they don't scrape off the seasoning.

What a surprise,

This was given to me with my new steel wok from Japan. Cleaning up after stir fry was a snap but I made a big batch of fried rice and could not imagine how I would get the sticky rice off without soap. This whisk brush worked like a charm, quick and easy!

This is the traditional whisk that you use to clean your wok. You must clean it when it is hot and use only water and the whisk. Ordinary scouring will damage the patina from seasoning.

The bamboo cleaning whisk works very well at cleaning a wok after use, but it doesn't last very long. I may be a bit heavy-handed with it, but the wood seems to shatter and splinter faster than I would have expected. I will be looking for something more durable in the future.

Useful for cleaning wok and other pans,

I was able to purchase this locally at an Asian market. It works nicely to clean out my wok after use. I let it dry in the light so it does not get moldy, which can happen since bamboo can retain moisture.
I have tried it on other pans as well and it does work to scrape out what sticks on the bottom. Seems that what sticks to the wok, due to the high heat and excellent conductivity of a steel wok, the food residue is easier to clean out than a stainless steel western pan.
