3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad Motivational/Inspirational Book
I can't help but wonder who the target audience is/was intended for this book. At times it read very smoothly; other times I felt like it was written in an uncreative/predictable manner. It made a lot of good points; I valued a lot of the lessons and advice. I just felt like the whole story about David, the presence of his sister's spirit, etc could have been left out...

When my grandmother died I had to go through her things, and I found not one but two copies of this book. Out of curiosity I read it, and was very moved and at the same time felt enlightened. I really wish that I could talk to her about this story, and regret that I didn't know her well enough, because anyone who appreciates this story is on the right path as far as I'm concerned. I am a Christian and I am not Native American, but those things really don't matter as the only thing you need to have when reading this is your desire to search, to learn more of yourself and the world. You will get out of this book much more than you spend on it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fate Has Led Me to This Story Once Again, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Wokini: A Lakota Journey to Happiness and Self-Understanding (Paperback)
By chance, I found this book in my local library, read it and had a life change. Today while looking up Nicholas Sparks I find that Wokini is in print once again. Life is good! This book will change your whole attitude and outlook on life. It begins by breaking down the old ideas (lies) about what happiness is and is not. It follows with a day by day path on how to achieve true happiness. A great book to give and to keep!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most inspiring and enlightening book I could recommend, September 29, 1999

This review is from: Wokini (Hardcover)
I was not prepared for the dramatic change in my outlook and self-awareness after I read Wokini. I couldn't put it down, and I even took notes. Wokini answers the who, what, where, why, when, and how, of happiness. I bought extra copies to give to my family and friends, and I hope they pass thir copies along to their loved ones. Wokini is such an easy book to read. The spiritual journey described in the book carried you from place to place looking for not only answers but questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Leads You to Vision That Most Folks Will Never See!!!, March 10, 1999
By A Customer
In a very clear, simple and entertaining way Billy Mills' story leads the reader to a better understanding of true happiness. At the same time he provides a little peek into Lakota beliefs and practices. The book is easy reading by children and adults alike, and will be enjoyed by both those who are interested in the Lakota and those who've looked for happiness in all the wrong places. I too hope that there will be another printing of this book. It is a sad commentary that such a delight should be lost to future generations. This is a book that I have given (and would love to continue if reprinted) as a gift to quite a few people. But, for the present, I must be satisfied with two... one for myself and one to loan out for others to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Wokini" is a life-chainging book!, April 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Wokini (Hardcover)
This book is a blessing. I have always been a bit wary of feel-good books (though i do believe in Self-help). Wokini is a departure. It's simple, powerful information that not only helps you to realize that you deserve happiness but shows you a fool-proof way to develop the habit of feeling joyful despite whoever or whatever. Rather than merely giving readers a pep talk, Mills gives an easy formula. It sounds too easy and like it takes up too little time to be effective, but it actually works!

I didn't know what to expect from this book and as I read it I was continually drawn in by the authors style of the telling of his experience. I assume it is his experience because of the directness of the story being told. A wonderful book providing tools for anyone who wants to be happy in life and has the ears to hear. The beauty is in the basic approach of just being human and how we relate to the world around us. A spirit journey in the finest sense. I want to present gift copies to everyone I love; especially my kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, October 25, 2011

I love this book. It teaches great life lessons and great outlooks. I think it can be applied to many aspects of life. I studied Medical Anthropology and was fascinated with the Native American methods of living in way that prevents the need for most modern medicines. This book helps with the understanding of attitude and acceptance, and how that impacts your life.

A friend told me I should read this book, I am glad I did. For the first time in my life at 48 I was alone. I had to find happiness within myself without depending on others for the happiness. I see life in a whole new way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is taking a journey to find happiness and peace being alone with themselves.
