I truly feel sorry for people who can't enjoy Andrew W.K.,
By Will (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
Like the title says, by hating on Andrew W.K., you're only truly hurting yourself. The man's a ball of healing white light, and if he passes on before me, I expect to have a beer with him, Mr. Rogers, and Bob Ross in the afterlife when I go. I Get Wet is the greatest party record since... you know, I'm not even sure. It's been so long since a record partied that damn hard. Probably something by Queen, honestly. And The Wolf is every bit as good a record, if not better. Unless you're just the most jaded hipster in existence, you will feel genuine uplift during tracks like "I Love Music." I've seen the man live, and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever attended. I'm a pretty quiet, reserved guy, but I never once stopped jumping up and down for that entire two hours. And Andrew rocked a thousand times harder than I did that night, for certain. If you're reading this Andrew, many thanks for the phenomenal albums, and thanks again for that message you left on my answering machine.

I GET WET IS PLAIN HARD PARTYING ; THE WOLF IS INSPIRATIONAL,
By Bingo (Brooklyn, NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wolf (Audio CD)
When I received "THE WOLF" which I had pre ordered, I had that awesome feeling one has when they just bought a well anticipated CD. You are excited, however, weary if it will live upto the hype. AWK fans, don't worry. This won't disappoint. Any hard core Andrew fans who listen to "I Get Wet" religiously will realize right off the bat that "The Wolf" is a whole new ballgame. However, this does not mean that you don't want to be in the ballpark. It starts off in familiar territory, as promised, with "Victory Strikes Again" and "Long Live The Party", two anthems that should be played during any house party. Then we start to hear a different side of Mr. WK. And, believe me, it isn't a bad side. Tear It Up may sound a bit similar to tracks on "...Wet" however, he reveals more of his personal side than in previous songs. "I did what I wanted at school/ I hung out on my own I went it alone and I probably really looked like a fool." Songs such as "Really In Love" and "I Love Music" are really going to get stuck in your head, (Fair Warning). Overall, this is a well made album to say the least. When artists release new albums, they promise so much change, maturity, growth, etc. but most of the time, the albums don't match up to the words. This is definetely a different album. What makes WK so fun and enjoyable is, besides his music, he is a guy that is so incredibly easy to like and root for. This is a guy who made mistakes, admitted them and changed his ways to the point where he uses his intensity in a positive way. In a music industry filled with snooty, self centered artists, WK is really a fresh breath of air. "Just because this life isn't easy, doesn't make it bad." I Get Wet was great and The Wolf just continues WK's path of excellence, while changing the sound a bit. A difficult task, but he pulls it off.

Friday night or Saturday Morning?,

Its a sad day when I feel like I can actually party harder than AWK. Listening to I Get Wet you had to wonder if Andrew W.K. would be the savior of rock and roll. How he was able to pack so much energy into a set of 3 minute fist pumping rock anthems was amazing. It was either really good or really bad depending on how much alcohol you had consumed. Either way you had to admit that it was brilliant. I`d easily rate it as one of the top rock records of the year as well. However with The Wolf its almost as if AWK has devolved into a charicature of himself. (C`mon Andrew... was Make Sex reeeeaaallly necessary?) The songs are still about the party, but the intensity is lacking and the fist pumping has been traded in for quieter ballads. There are still some great guitars on the record but a lot of the time they are masked behind the over-use of keyboards and synthesizers. The final product is good but nowhere near the cailber of I Get Wet. Don`t let this review deter you buying the record and making up your own mind. Its still a solid rock n` roll record, and songs like `Tear It Up` and `Never Let Down` are diamonds in the mix. Somewhere around the middle of the album you might just find that you`ve outgrown some of his schtick. Maybe AWK has too?
